JORDAN AND HER SISTERS

The recent bombing in Jordan has sparked speculation in the imperial press, that Jordanians will now, *en masse*, join the so-called “War on Terror� against Al-Qaeda in Iraq.

It is certain that there are many Jordanians who are rightfully outraged by the attack on western hotels in Amman, Jordan, and they blame their countryman, Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi for the carnage, but to leap to the position that this will form some kind of army against Al-Qaeda in Iraq, is wishful thinking, in the extreme.

That’s because, as is often the case, there’s a world of difference between leaders and their people.

We don’t have to speculate about the actual national support for Jordan’s King Abdullah II. We need only look at the low level of support for America’s present president, George W. Bush.

Abdullah, as a western-educated man, is seen as a tool of the West, who has been forced into a geo-political corner to lend support for the disaster in Iraq. While it may be difficult to accurately gauge true public support in any monarchy, you can best believe that there is a great deal of enmity for the royal house, probably only exceeded by hatred of America.

The Iraq war, waged on the lie of 'weapons of mass destruction', has been a boon to the Islamic jihadi movement.

Foreign affairs scholars know this. The CIA does as well.

In the January 2004 edition of *Current History*, International Relations professor, and *Current History* contributing editor, Augustus R. Norton, wrote:

“...[A] hard-hitting CIA report found that Iraqis, especially Sunnis but also some Shiites, were "flooding to the ranks of the guerrillas": that Iraqis who previously sat on the fence now saw the chance to 'inflict bodily harm' on Americans and their allies; and that ammunition was "readily available." ... [T]he Iraqi war has actually exacerbated the terrorism threat. It has done so in part by feeding enmity toward America. ...The [October 1st, 2003 report, by the advisory group on public diplomacy in the Arab and Muslim World] found distressing levels of anti-Americanism and concluded that "the bottom had fallen out of support for the United States." [Fr.: A.R. Norton, "Making War, Making Peace: The Middle East Entangles America," *Current History* (Jan.'04), p.5].

The fatal miscalculations that led to the Iraq War, are also fueling the Administration’s mad plan to “democratize� the Middle East. This is a recipe for destabilization that will lead, inexorably, to the fall of not just Iraq, but the royal houses of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and perhaps Egypt as well.

If Iraq splits, as it now threatens to do, into ethnic, and religious conclaves, it will send shock waves all across the region, destabilizing every state on its periphery, and sparking other upheavals.

The Bush administration, and the oil companies that put them in power, want this instability to move in and take control over every drop of that resource. It is a relatively cheap matter to put a few puppets on thrones, to try to keep the rabble in line.

What we are looking at is a kind of petro-colonialism.

Al-Qaeda, terrorism, democracy...these are but pretexts to justify the use of arms.

And, if history is any guide, the suicide-bombings in Amman, Jordan, are just the beginning.

Several decades ago, jihadis were recruited from over a dozen countries as forces to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan. Many of those men had no real idea that they were trained, armed, and aimed by the American CIA. They thought that they were merely soldiers of Islam, fighting against the communist infidel.

Much of their money today comes from countries that are 'allies' of the Americas, like the Saudis and the Pakistanis.

It is in the interest of Washington’s 'Second Crusade' that they alienate Muslim audiences throughout the region.

Time will surely tell, but perhaps the last bombing victim of this recent attack in Jordan will not be an individual, but an institution.

We Africans, especially in America know what the oppressive yoke of "collective responsibility" feels like. Arabs are getting a dose of it now, and don't like it.

This is brilliant, get those who we're ultimately oppressing to abandon support for their resisters by making the victims feel as if "their own" people are the cause of their suffering!

This is a WAR OF TERRORISM!!
