THE NEW BLACK PANTHER PARTY NATIONAL MINISTRY OF CULTURE PO BOX 25332, NEWARK, NJ 07101 201-602-0780 January 26, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW PANTHERS WIND DOWN LOADED JANUARY WITH ‘NEW PERIOD’ ROUNDTABLE RAISE ‘THE FLAG’ IN TRENTON FOR HEAVY BLACK HISTORY MONTH On Wednesday, January 28th, the Newark Chapter of the New Black Panther Party will host a powerful roundtable honoring three of the greatest sons of the 20th century, legendary world historian Dr. John Henrik Clarke, the party immortal Black Power general Khallid Abdul Muhammad and the incomparable Drum Major for Justice, Dr. Martin Luther King, all born in January a generation apart. Dr.Clarke was born on January 1, 1915. Dr. King was born on January 15, 1929 and Dr.Khallid Abdul Muhammad was born on January 12, 1948. The forum entitled ‘The Scholar, the Preacher, the Revolutionary Teacher’ not only observes the incredible legacies of commitment of these great men; It also will serve as a reappraisal of their legacies in the wake of the epic election of Barack Husein Obama to the presidency. Special guests for what is certainly be an engaging dialogue include educator Ted Bolar, Dr. Akil Khalfani of the Africana Institute of Essex County College and the party’s national minister of culture Zayid Muhammad who just observed his 30th anniversary year in struggle. This moving event will take place at Waset Kommuniversity, 271 So. 9th Street, Newark at 6:30p.m. Free admission. Donation requested. For further information, please call 973-204-5124… Looking ahead, on Monday, February 2nd, in observation of Black History Month, the City of Trenton has granted the New Black Panther Party permission to raise the Universal Afrikan Liberation Flag (The Flag) at City Hall for two weeks during Black History Month. The flag raising ceremony will take place along with a press conference at 12 noon. The press conference will also announce the Panthers ‘State of Black Trenton’ Conference and City-wide listening tour. “With the climate of change and hope that is sweeping across America because of the newly elected President Barack Obama, ‘the flag,’ world renown for its red, black and green, now emerges with greater significance and offers substance to the symbol once overlooked by the masses,” he explained. “We say that not only was history made with the election of the 1st Black Man to the presidency of the United States - but Black History was and will continue to be made in this country and abroad,” he finished emphatically. The New Black Panther Party has been raising ‘The Flag,’ given to the global Afrikan world by the immortal Marcus Garvey in 1920, at Trenton City Hall since 2001 for a week in Black History Month. This year marks the first time that the City will have it hoisted for two weeks. “It really should be up for the whole month at least, but they didn’t figure that out yet, but it’s a step,” said Divine Allah, the Party’s Trenton-based national youth minister, who has been spearheading the tradition. National Youth Minister Divine Allah will be in court on February 3rd at 9a.m. at 100 Centre Street. His case will be heard in Part F.Details will follow soon on the others… On September 21st the New York Police Department recklessly attacked the Black Power contingent of the Harlem Day Parade will they were marching. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but in defense of their contingent and their outraged and dismayed supporters on the sidelines five men, four of whom belonged to the New Black Panther Party, were arrested… On Saturday, February 21st, anniversary of the assassination of Malcolm X, the Harlem Chapter of the New Black Panther Party will host the Maroon Society in a peoples hip hop and spoken word tribute to Malcolm, Huey P. Newton and Khallid Abdul Muhammad. This hot mike-smokin event will be called ‘The Return of Revolutionary Hip Hop Kulture Music’ featuring God MC, M’kassa and other special performing guests including Indigo, Glorious, the Verbal Artisan and True da God, among more. This will all take place at the historic Barbara Ann Teer National Black Theatre in the village of Harlem, 2031 5th Avenue, between 125th and 126th Streets from 7-12midnight.
