Failing to Plan Can Be Hazardous to Our Health
By Alton H. Maddox, Jr.
Even if I had to go in the hole for no less than Twelve Hundred Dollars ($1200.00), I believe that, for the survival of Black people, I had to have invited Min. Joseph Carswell of Atlanta, GA to New York City.
It is not the first time that I have had to sponsor a loss leader. I receive no monies or cushions in return for sponsoring the weekly forums. I received no profits or donations from any sales made on Wednesdays. Knowledge is too important not to be institutionalized. Booker T. Washington institutionalized Tuskegee Institute.
The UAM weekly forums were established nearly twenty years ago to stop the dumbing down of Black people. Min. Carswell, last night, cited the Biblical rationale for these forums which have featured internationally-known speakers who are otherwise barred from New York City.
Hosea 4:6 provides as follows:
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shall be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. Black people are getting dumbed down and they are clueless. We are rejecting scientific knowledge. More Blacks are headed to churches. This is Exhibit "A" of our mental plight. On the first Wednesday of January 1990, my inaugural speech at the Slave Theater was entitled: "The Scientific Approach to African Liberation."
Religion has secured some civil rights for Blacks but it will take science to secure human rights. Carswell agrees. These rights are mostly social coupled with some semblance of voting rights but not political rights.
Notwithstanding the presence of Carswell, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Rev. Herbert Oliver, Rev. Joseph Bragg and the late Rev. William A. Jones, among others, in pulpits, the reputed Negro preacher is the most dangerous person in America for Blacks. They are more dangerous than Bush 43 and Sen. John McCain combined.
They are currently advocating "Night Watch" services on Election Day while the NYPD runs off with ballot boxes. No one will be guarding the chicken coops while foxes are running amuck. McCain and the Republican Party will be wearing their masks on Halloween and on Election Day. To them, it is "by any means necessary."
Rev. Al Sharpton will be leading a candlelight vigil at a historic church in Atlanta on November 4. This is the act of a media hound. No plan is in place for Blacks to serve as poll watchers throughout the nation on Election Day. Thefts at ballot boxes have victimized Blacks since, at least, 1876.
The NYPD is commending Negro preachers for sponsoring successful buy back programs of guns while white supremacists groups are plotting the assassination of Sen. Barack Obama and the wholesale slaughter of Blacks. Moreover, gun sales in the white community are soaring. This is reminiscent of Reconstruction. History will repeat itself.
"When the going gets tough, the tough gets going." This does not mean kneel-ins on Rev. Ike's prayer cloths and watching Negro preachers doing gymnastics in pulpits. Malcolm X said, Blacks "should be too busy swinging to do any singing."
"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." This current "Great Depression" can be a bonanza for Blacks. This is our opportunity for economic and political advancement if we get off the couch and use our collective minds. Otherwise, we will be volunteers for slavery.
This historic meeting to address an aggressive, Black agenda will occur on Saturday, November 1, at 8:30 a.m. at the Elks Plaza, 1068 Harriet Tubman (Fulton Street) (nr. Classon Ave.) in Brooklyn. Take the "C" train to Franklin Avenue. Food will accommodate the early rising.
Using the words of Min. Carswell, we must move from using the right side of our brain to using its left side. On Saturday, we must embrace this message which I have been urging for the past twenty years. We must prepare our brains for Black success despite the odds. We will win!

We must continue to stand together in unity and to demand a moratorium on all executions. You must stay strong. You must continue to hold your heads up, and to be there. We will prevail. Keep marching Black people. They are killing me tonight. They are murdering me tonight." -- Excerpts of Last Words of Bro.
