The former pastor Rev. Clarence P. Grant, D.D. passed on the same day in 2005, he had been an outspoken critic of the New York Police Department war on terrorism of people of color. Rev. Vernon Williams, Harlem Street Organizing Coalition and Dawn L. Jones, former president of Convent Avenue Baptist Church’s Social Action Committee will be in Washington, DC on the 55th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education Saturday, May 17th, 2009. Cynthia Howell, Niece of Alberta Spruill has moved to North Carolina. On Friday, May, 16, 2003, Alberta Spruill was murdered by the New York City Police Department. Six years later to the day, Friday, May 16, 2009, Harlem commemorates the Sixth Anniversary of Alberta Spruill’s Death. The event is free to the public and will begin at 6:00pm. The former residence of Alberta Spruill is located at 310 West 143rd Street (between Bradhurst Avenue and Frederick Douglas Boulevard in the Village of Harlem. The Justice Coalition and Faith Coalition for Political Action are bringing the message “Justice for Alberta Spruill” to Harlem. The event is co-supported by District Council 37, Cynthia Howell, Niece of Alberta Spruill, along with Local 1549.
