Replacing XP Home With XP Pro SP2?

OK ya'll, I've been googling and all that and I'm just confusing myself o.O I'm no PC guru but I do have some wits about me. If I don't know I can figure it out a lot of times. But this, nothing doing.

Do I have to uninstall XP Home to install Pro? I'm pretty sure yes, though I need to back up my files first? And then what if I want/need to go back to Home? Home came already installed on our Dell PC when we got it, oh, 3 or so years ago. Not even sure if I have the CD around here to reinstall it if I need to.

I need Pro for school stuff but now I'm just confused :p Dang I want a Mac . Any advice would be appreciated .

What are you using your pc for will determine if you really need to upgrade at all. Typically (not always) upgrades to OS are useless unless they serve a real purpose.

Since we are on the XP (Microsoft Subject) I need to downgrade of at least turn off the warnings that pop up with everything on Vista.

I'm thinking about going to XP on my laptop but if I can get rid of that first that would be a help

When you say "warnings' can you be more specific? I have vista as well and only messages I get are the ones for if a program is tryin to open and needs permission to do so,is that what you are referring to?

Yeah that's what I'm talking about.

I actually figured out how to turn them off. You have to do a lot of clicking through menu's but once you can access the user account settings you can shut them off.

Dont bother upgrading XP home to XP Pro, youll just make matters worse. It will just make your system slower with more registry data. Do a clean install (erasing your old xp) if its really that serious. I only use XP PRO and theres a XP student release version swimming around the internet via torrents. It is guaranteed genuine. XP used it in schools as well. I use it for all my clients and my own.

it comes with the media center upgrade that u can choose to download or install. I stopped using media center since i now use Media portal which is an awesome media center program.

oh and mac is wack. im a computer animator, and we choose PC any day unless u doing video editting. or music /protools
