| How can you change this? How can you change this?
I am posting here as a white person. You have things you wish to say to me, and I welcome them. Rage at me.
But before you do, I have a question for you:
How can you change what is happening to your culture? Black culture is being poisoned and some of us white people are watching it die.
How can this be fixed?
What is happening to young black men? Young white people like to take part in black culture, and they love the ghetto image, the gangster image. For a while. But sooner or later, they leave it behind them -it is not their culture, it is not aimed at them and they can never 'be' the people they admire. This warped imagery does not damage them in the same way that it harms your children. They have other places to go.
I live in the inner city, and I get to see young black men and women grow up without the role models I had. I had presidents and leaders, writers and scientists, academics and businessmen. What does a young black man have? Rap culture is battle music, it is a war cry. Hip hop can be positive, but when a man like 50 Cent is what young black boys aspire to, it dooms them to a life of crime and bullet scars. How can this be fixed?
Many black people think that this is 'keeping it real'. They think that the image of the strong black man that is broadcast to them by the media is a genuine, a real thing that they can be. The reality is far uglier, and the 'bitches' end up with babies, the 'bling' gets them shot or beaten the drugs and violence ends young black lives before they have even begun to thrive.
The image of Blackness that many young black people are being fed is a myth, a cartoon-character exaggeration constructed by record companies and hollywood directors to sell product.
And this is what young black men have to aspire to. These are their role models, spoon fed by the media and the record companies. Gangsters, criminals, drug dealers, killers, thugs and thieves.
It is bullshit; Black people should reject it for what it is: a fucked up, made up dreamworld that is harming the minds of their children.
I had presidents and leaders, writers and scientists, academics and businessmen. What does a young black man have?
For God's sake change this. Your culture is being poisoned before your very eyes.
