| Africans! Know the process or DIE voting with illusions of change
Africans! Know the process or DIE voting with illusions of change. ConsciousConvers@aol.com Lie #1 - When YOU are told YOU (a non-elector) elect the president of the United States. Lie #2 - When YOU are told the president is elected on November 2. Lie #3 - When YOU are told on November 3, you have elected the president. Truth - Electors elect the president. Truth - The President is not elected until December 13 (this year), or on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December. Truth - Electors DO NOT have to vote along party lines. The vote for who they want. Truth - The Electoral College is in place to make sure YOU DO NOT have the power to put the president in office, 538 Electors Ya'lls founding fathers: (My Thoughts) "We can't allow it to be left to chance who runs our house. Would you allow just anyone to come in and run your house?" __________________________________________________ _______ Isn't the Electoral College system undemocratic, since it does not permit the American people to directly choose their president? Yes, it is undemocratic. But the Framers of the Constitution did not want a system in which the president was chosen directly by the voters. "The people are uninformed and would be misled by a few designing men," said Massachusetts delegate Elbridge Gerry during the debate at the constitutional convention. (Gerry ended up not signing the Constitution.) It is entirely up to each state's legislature to decide how electors are chosen. Most citizens can become electors; however, those who work for the Federal Government or are members of Congress cannot be electors. There is a VOTING day and then there is an ELECTION day. Both, the Voting day and the Election day are required by the Constitution. On November 2 the popular vote in each state determines the Electors. The electors shall be appointed, in each State, on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November. (This year Nov. 2) The Electoral College elects the President on December 13. They place one vote for president and one vote for vice-president. The electors of each State shall meet and give their votes on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December. (This year Dec. 13) When we vote, we determine which group of electors, Dem. or Rep. will participate in electing the president on December 13. The president is elected by 538 Electors, not the general population. Of these 538 votes, 270 are required for the elected president. Legally, the electors may vote for someone other than the candidate for whom they were pledged to vote. This phenomenon is known as the "unfaithful" or "faithless" elector. When we vote, we are registering our preference with the Electors. We have the right to vote, however, we do not have the right to elect the president, unless we are an Elector. Every vote IS NOT counted. It's not practical unless there is not a clear cut popular vote toward either Dem. or Rep. (50.1 %) in any particular state. Once there is a clear cut popular vote toward either Dem. or Rep. (50.1 %), the rest of the votes are irrelevant. This is why it's important to REGISTER so that they are aware of the total number of potential voters. This is how projections are able to take place. Constitution Article II - The Congress may determine the Time of choosing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States. Each State is allocated a number of Electors equal to the number of its U.S. Senators (always 2) plus the number of its U.S. Representatives (which may change each decade according to the size of each State's population as determined in the Census). After Election Day, on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December, these electors assemble in their state capitals, cast their ballots, and officially select the next President of the United States. Legally, the electors may vote for someone other than the candidate for whom they were pledged to vote. This phenomenon is known as the "unfaithful" or "faithless" elector. As of 2000, one hundred and fifty-six "faithless electors" have voted contrary to their party's candidate.

again, i ask: what is the specific action that we should be encouraging people to take? dont say "organize", dont say "get the facts". the average person participates in teh status quo because they feel there are no options. what are their SPECIFIC options? and as I have asked in other threads, what are our success stories that illustrate in real life examples that these alternatives work? if we want to recruit, we need to be armed with real information, detailed plans and clear advantages for the average non-militant minded african, latino and asian. every time I try to get to a nitty gritty conversation everyone falls off the map. lets get to the root of this discussion.

| Voting A Waste of Time
Ifa, I think you have another question you really want to ask rather than what you have said. Or maybe you don't understand why people say not to vote? Because I think you may know why people don't vote, you must be asking the wrong question. Minister of Defense Dr. Huey P. Newton taught us that people learn for observation and participation, so basically we need to do a lot more acting than talking as Chairman Fred Hampton Sr. says. Create alternitive programs for people to get involved with. Elijah Muhammad taught that a habit can not be stop be only redirected so we replace a bad habit, voting, with a good habit, working for Our People (Our People includes me and you). Show people rather than only try to convince them. I think you have to understand the organizers are the ones who will have to come up with the ideas. There is a big difference between telling someone to get organized and showing them organization. A difference between telling people to get the facts and showing & proving the facts. I know if you cover the basic needs and/or what is believed to be needs of people they will support & listen to you. Also just in case you don't realize why people don't vote go and ask some of Our People why they vote, you will hear some of the most darnest things. Also voting is a one time deal... Our People are DYING everyday!!!! We shouldn't focus of a solution to voting alternatives. We have to focus on alternatives to being killed and oppressed.

i am not asking these questions for my own understanding. lol i have been an activist most of teenage years and adult life. on all levels. i have been a member of a number of the organizations that members of this board gravitate towards. i know the party lines. i know what organizers do. dont be confused. i am not asking because i dont understand. i am asking because all too often others dont understand. "we" assume that our jargon has weight. the average black person has been trained to disregard our words or at least be confused by them. i am asking us to use this space to deal with specific strategies for getting the attention of africans. just because Kerry lost a losey presidential election doesnt mean that black people are going to want to be revolutionaries now. lol and four more years of democracy is just as scarey under any administration, so thats not news when we post that. anyone that came this far to find this site and messageboard already knows that part............ i guess we are more comfortable talking in generalities on the board. if so, then my fears are warranted - a missed opportunity to build, a missed opportunity to recruit. Truth, I have said it before. Do not for a second believe that the 800+ members of this board are actually as connected as you are to a pan-african organization. Most of the people here are merely islands, aware but disorganized, fired up but not fueled. When we simply vent and say "now everybody go back to your orgs and make plans on this thing." We simply sending people back to their empty living rooms. We have a chance to deliberate in detail and have your info impact someone in another place and vice versa. Instead of simply signing on to revel in the defeat of one white man against another. The harsher reality is that could we as 800+ strong actually come up with 5 success stories of pan-africansm at work on a national level in Amerikkka? Maybe so, maybe not...but if we could that would information that we could all share with potentially tens of dozens of organizations and thousands of people, if each one of us read it and only share it with a couple of people.. that dont sound bad does it?

I know you know, but as I said in my first line, I know there was another question you really want to ask rather than what you said. And I think you question in a good question. But the reality is that change happen by a few. The reality is that most people on this forum are not leaders or organizers, but are followers or supports, which is perfectly fine. And a small few who just want to be entertained, which is fine too. I think those who are organizers use all of the tools on this site and our sites to there full advantage. For example in a good amount of user profiles it say the location of a person AND email or pm that person. Or like just last week for the celebrate of Assata's Liberation (Nov. 2) we used her We Will Win speech, we printed out Message to the Sistas to read. A whole book from the BLA is on here, POW info is on here, there is plenty of information. There were only two purpose with the creation of this forum, that is to Educate and Organize. I know for a fact that these two are being accomplished. Some of the people of this forum help with some of the things we do in Atlanta. Do not believe things are not happening because you don't see them. A wise man told me to look at things as a process rather than as an event.
