Talking Black Manufacturing and Black Inventors

Black Manufacturing and Black Inventors

Black Manufacturing and Black Inventors - Can we court this marriage?
by Balogun Arinwaka (aka Gary C. Booker)

I have a vision of Black love, yall! In fact, I have a vision of a polygamous marriage between Black Manufacturing, Black Inventors, Black Distribution and Black Business. Right now, let's start this off by hooking Black Manufacturing and Black Inventors up, first. Let's check out this potential couple:

Black Inventor works hard to brainstorm ideas that can benefit people in all kinds of ways, from providing entertainment, to saving lives. He spends several working hours developing one component to make sure that the product will be user friendly and safe. Black inventor would be a perfect match for Black Manufacturing, who constantly is looking to put together a good product for the masses of Black People. She'll love to have Black Inventor's Babies, who will go all over the Black community and do lots of wonderful things. A match made in heaven, right? Then why have we been waiting so long to hook these two beautiful people up so they can live happily ever after?

Next, we should encourage Black Inventor and Black Manufacturing to start practicing polygamy. They should bring Black Distribution and Black Business into the household. Black Manufacturing should court Black Distribution, who in turn should court Black Business. Black Distribution will make sure that all of Black Inventor and Black Manufacturing's children will go in the right hands. Black Business will make sure that the Black Manufacturing's children will go on to do wonderful things for each and every member of the Black community.

Just makes you want to sing love songs and smell roses, doesn't it?

Enough with the allegory... hopefully you got the point. Now, let's discuss some things regarding the direction of the Black Economy heading into 2007. We live in a bad, downtrotten economy where it is hard for us to get jobs because of the lack of work. It would have been easier to survive this economy had we had some businesses in our community so that we could recycle our dollars, but we don't. We still have to go to outsiders for our groceries, our hair products, our gas, and other things that we consume on a normal basis. These basic opportunities go wasted and we throw our money away.

We can turn this thing around, but it will require a change of focus. The presence of Black manufacturers will be a very important thing to bring into existence in the future. We can talk very much about how Black People need to support Black businesses, but our ability to do this will be limited until we develop a strong, dominating presence in manufacturing.

In the midst of Bill Cosby and the New York Times' talk about how sorry Black Men are, Morehouse College just graduated its largest graduation class in its history. They have come out in the middle of one of the United States worst recessions in history. What are we going to do for them? What are we going to do for the sisters coming out of Spellman? What are we going to do for the other Brothers and Sisters coming out of colleges all around the country? Let's help them help us by collectively investing in manufacturing.

Instead of us trying to pressure Target into hiring some Black Execs, which can only bring a limited amount of Jobs for the Black Elite, let's focus on finding ways to diverge all of this money being spent by Black Americans into building Manufacturing plants. Let's simultaneously create an initiative to take the small businesses in our communities back. The sisters from Spellman that won the technology competition in Japan will never be able to push an ethonol initiative in Southwest Atlanta, a predominantly Black Area, without access to gas stations as well as an access to a chemical manufacturing plant.

Who wants to help plan the wedding?
