I was going to start a thread about this, but I was too late. This is an article I found. If you click on the video link you will see two different clips from two different people showing the shooting.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm numb I suppose and saying to myself, not again!!

THE YEAR 2009 STARTED WITH A BANG that ended the life of 22-year-old African American man in the California Bay Area. Oscar Grant’s shooting death was captured on the video footage below. He was killed by police in what some people are calling cold blooded murder. (Read the whole story here. Report by KTVU San Francisco, Jan. 5, 2009)

I received the following account of Grant’s death in my email today along with the video footage.

BART-Police who patrol the Bay Area's subway system entered the train to break up a fight. They pulled a number of young African American men from the train, and lined them up in a seating position against the concrete wall of the train station. Two police officers pulled Mr. Grant from his seating position, and he raised both his hands as though to show his complete surrender. Nevertheless the unarmed, handcuffed young man was stretched out on the ground by two officers while a third officer (a two-year veteran) pulled his gun, pointed it at his helpless cative, and killed young Grant with a single gunshot. Commuters were horrified at the violence, and the other young men who police had removed from the train with Grant were terrified, believing it would be their turns next.

Check out the video to this horrific shooting:
Video

When the story first broke there were stories about the police snatching people's cell phones and video cameras. Witnesses to the shooting were being hushed up or discredited. But apparently, the police didn't get all of the cameras. The person who filmed this footage is said to be too frightened to be identified because the police really enforce the “don't snitch” rule in that community.

There was a press conference today about a 25 million dollar lawsuit, but no amount of money brings back a life. More information will be provided as it is made available.

To them we are no more then CATTLE. Everytime a cop here gets shot they make a huge fuss over it, but what about us? They dont put that on the News, but you'll be sure to see coverage of a dead honkey all damn day.

These evils would be exposed if the commissioner and whoever else wasnt on TV lying all the time, trying to rationalize police shootings. Then they try and use language to make us look like the bad guy, when its the other way around.

I kno Struggle is on another vibe. But power concedes nothing without a demand. You do you and let me do what I kno and, like Steve Bantu Biko wrote in the run-up to the Soweto Rebellions of 1976, "I Write What I Like." Thus and henceforth, we rumble.

I feel what this brother is saying. And even though we can strike out at one cop and spill the blood of a pig I don't think that is a good substitute for revolutionary organizing and building a revolutionary organization in the current period. The Black Panthers were a threat enough just for feeding children and advocating armed self-defense. Whereas the INLA in Ireland bombed a bar that cops chilled at killing like over 30 of them, but it alienated some of the populace from them, now the INLA has suspended armed violence and focused more on organizing through their political wing the IRSP (but they didn't get rid of their guns or their armed wing ).

We are still at the point now I think that we need to raise the consciousness of the masses to the point where we can mobilize large numbers over each and every single event of police terror. So far I've seen a few groups on the grind, such as the Uhuru movement and the New Black Panther Party. We have to win the Battle of Ideas (as my comrades in Cuba call it) so that later we can win real battles. I am honored to be able to post on this site among other conscious sisters and brothers.

Pig Who Murdered Oscar Grant In Cold Blood Goes Into Hiding Following Death Threats

Malcolm-Che.com Blog Archive Officer Who Murdered Oscar Grant Goes Into Hiding Following Death Threats

So the officer who murdered Oscar Grant has gone into hiding because of death threats against him and his family. It seems that Johannes Mehserle (the cop) and his wife just had a kid on Friday. Sympathy for this guy?? None. He deserves the same punishment that we get, throw him in one of the disgusting dungeons known as California prisons. Send him to the mainline in a Cali prison and let him deal with the so-called “justice” that we do. He wouldn’t last one second. But more importantly, the most important thing in this article is that NO ONE that the reporters talked to could remember A SINGLE INSTANCE where a police officer was accused of a crime for killing a civilian in cold blood!! They even cite an instance where a man was shot in the back!! Do they want another uprising?!?! How much more of this police terror will the citizens take? To quote the authors of this article: “If Mehserle is charged with a crime in Grant’s shooting, it will be a first.” Well they better start drawing up the paperwork or they might have a problem. But we shouldn’t be suprised, the cops are the most powerful gang on the streets. They NEVER face justice for the robbing, brutalizing and murdering that they do! Malcolm-Che won’t make predictions, but they might want to make this a 1st or else they might face another uprising.

Death threats against BART officer

Johannes Mehserle, the cop who killed Oscar Grant in cold blood for no damn reason

M&R: Death threats against BART officer

(01-06) 22:06 PST San Francisco — Johannes Mehserle, the BART police officer who fatally shot a man on the Fruitvale Station platform in Oakland early New Year’s Day, is being kept under wraps and moved from place to place after receiving a number of death threats, BART spokesman Linton Johnson confirmed Tuesday night.

Mehserle, 27, a two-year veteran of the BART police force, shot and killed 22-year-old Oscar Grant of Hayward as Grant lay face-down on the station platform following a fight between two groups on a train.

While the nature of the threats hasn’t been revealed, Johnson said at least one of the threats was made to Mehserle’s family. As a result, he has been moved twice.

Mehserle is described as “devastated” over the shooting, but has yet to give a statement to investigators. Johnson said the delay was caused when Mehserle’s attorney showed up at the station within two hours of the shooting and invoked the officer’s right to “retain counsel and not say anything.”

Probes by BART police and the Alameda County district attorney were further hampered because investigators were off over the holiday weekend.

On Friday, Mehserle’s girlfriend had a baby - and then, to further complicate matters, BART passengers’ videos of the Fruitvale Station incident began showing up on the airwaves. BART lawyers and brass have been in scramble mode ever since.

Johnson said Mehserle’s attorney “has not made it easy to schedule him for an interview, but hopefully he’ll be coming in very soon.”

Odds are: If Mehserle is charged with a crime in Grant’s shooting, it will be a first.

No one we talked with - from the district attorney’s office to lawyers who work either side of police shootings - could remember a case in the last 20 years in which an on-duty officer had been charged in a fatal shooting in Alameda County.

“By and large, police officers have been reacting to some type of situation before they shoot someone that usually provides a legal justification,” said District Attorney Tom Orloff, who has seen dozens of police shooting cases during his nearly four-decade career as a prosecutor.

Orloff, whose office would ultimately decide whether Mehserle should be charged with anything, hastened to point out that many details about the Fruitvale Station shooting remain unknown and that it is far too early to know whether the case will enter the criminal arena.

The most recent controversial police shooting in Alameda County happened July 25, when Oakland police Officer Hector Jimenez shot a drunken-driving suspect in the back as the man ran from an early morning traffic stop in the Fruitvale District.

Police said Jimenez shot 27-year-old Mack “Jody” Woodfox III because he thought Woodfox was reaching into his waistband for a gun, although no gun was found. Jimenez gave the same reason for taking part in the fatal shooting New Year’s Eve 2007 of another man, Andrew Moppin, who, like Woodfox, turned out to be unarmed.

Police and a deputy from the district attorney’s office interviewed Jimenez after the Woodfox shooting, then went out to the scene at night and re-enacted the incident as the officer related it.

The result - although technically the case is still pending, no charges have been filed.

Since the masses are riding Obama, and if Obama's reaction remains the same as in the Sean Bell tragedy... this approach can be used.

How many times can he defend this imperialistic justice system protecting these pigs killing unarmed brothers! Masses WILL see that!

In a dramatic story that has been stoked by amateur YouTube videos, the aftermath of the fatal New Year's Day shooting of a young man by a BART police officer accelerated Wednesday on several fronts — with protests and scattered violence in downtown Oakland, a huge funeral, and an announcement that the BART police officer had resigned.

Beginning around 5 p.m., police responded to scattered disturbances as hundreds of protesters marched from the Fruitvale BART station to City Hall, overturning trash cans, setting cars and trash containers on fire and taunting police trying to control them. At one point, protesters rammed a trash container against a police car, bashing in the front and back windows and denting the passenger side. No one was hurt.

For several hours, scores of police officers from Oakland, BART and the Housing Authority skirmished with as many as 200 demonstrators who had broken away from the Fruitvale demonstration and who appeared to be doing most of the vandalism. Officers used tear gas to disperse protesters who moved about downtown streets, breaking the windows of some businesses and forcing police to shut down a number of streets.

For more than an hour, Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums tried to calm the protesters, even as they booed and argued with him, demanding that he push for charges to be filed against Johannes Mehserle, the BART officer who allegedly shot Oscar Grant III as he lay facedown on the ground. Later,

Dellums said he would ask Oakland police to investigate the shooting along with probes by BART and the district attorney's office.

At a 9:30 p.m. news conference, police said they had arrested 14 adults and one juvenile, with at least one person charged with assaulting a police officer. Officials were bracing for another protest expected this morning when the BART board meets at its headquarters near Lake Merritt.

Earlier Wednesday, more than 1,000 people turned out at a Hayward church to remember Grant, the 22-year-old father one worshipper called "the apple of God's eyes." Cell phone videos apparently show Grant lying in a passive pose, then being shot by an officer standing over him.

On the same day, as word spread that Mehserle had quit the force, about 50 protesters met with Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff to demand that his office file charges against Mehserle. BART officials announced Wednesday that Mehserle, 27, had resigned. Earlier in the week, the officer's attorney postponed a meeting that had been scheduled by BART investigators for Tuesday and sought to defer the meeting until next week, according to a news release from BART.

Delay declined

BART investigators declined the delay and scheduled Wednesday's meeting, during which Mehserle's attorney and union representative submitted his resignation letter. The officer was not present, according to the release from BART.

BART officials had urged Mehserle to meet and cooperate with the transit agency's investigation into the fatal shooting, which has been playing out online in disturbing videos and eyewitness accounts of the melee that led to the incident. Officers were called to the station after a report that a fight had broken out on a train.

"This shooting is a tragic event in every respect for all involved," BART General Manager Dorothy Dugger said. "We recognize that the family and friends of Oscar Grant are in mourning, and we extend our condolences."

At the funeral services at Palma Ceia Baptist Church, friends described the 22-year-old father as a natural leader of other kids in the church's Royal Ambassadors program, and some thought he would someday become a pastor himself.

"I met Oscar when he was young — 6, 7, 8 years old. Oscar always knew so much for a young person," Deacon Eugene Carter said during the service. "It seemed like he knew as much as some adults. "... He would ask adult questions."

Life recalled

Carter said that from a young age, Grant enjoyed fishing, baseball, chess, dominoes — "whatever you knew how to do, Oscar already knew how to do it." Church member Donna Smith said Grant "always wanted to lead his family in prayer. Oscar had the loudest voice when he sang in the Sunshine Choir."

The Rev. Ronald Coleman urged the crowd to "show how believers handle times like this — the world is watching."

He urged church members to respond with prayer and prudence.

"I can understand that youngsters are upset and angry,'' said Coleman, "but you have to have trust in God."

I was in Oakland during the Rodney King Rebellions in 1993. I was NPDUM vp and the masses were blowing up our phones. Uhuru had another opinion on the Simi Valley Verdict until that happened. We instantly changed our views to unite with the people; not on the basis of populism but based upon our principles that when the masses rumble we rumble, and if they go down we go down with them. That we share all the struggles of the African people, that we do not separate ourselves from them or place ourselves above them and struggle to be their revolutionary leadership.

So our phones were blowing up that day and people were damn near busting down the doors. We caravaned from E Oakland to Downtown where we took a PA system and held a rally. Youths from all over the city came filtering in but the crowd built up rapidly. We gave as many as wanted a chance to speak. Black, Chicano, Asian, white.

So now, the last part of Pragmatic's post reminds me of that moment, captured in time. Before we took to the street to march on the pig sty, one last speaker begged for the mike. Cde Biko Lumumba (RIP) gave it to an elder with a minister's collar. He said, "Now, we don't want any violence. We want to keep our heads. We need to conduct a peaceful march. We don't want to start trouble." He caught so many boos I thought he would get killed. Biko snatched the mike back, sed a few words and we took off down the street towards the pig sty. The rest is history.

Preachers and their succor. Sucker. SUCKER WORDS. Lettum keep that shit for the sheep. you all are the braves and warriors of a rising new society. Burn, baby, burn!

"I can understand that youngsters are upset and angry,'' said Coleman, "but you have to have trust in God."

i want to add his picture:

Earlier Wednesday, more than 1,000 people turned out at a Hayward church to remember Grant, the 22-year-old father of one worshipper called "the apple of God's eyes." Cell phone videos apparently show Grant lying in a passive pose, then being shot by an officer standing over him.

Thank you comrade Langalibalele for this amazing post. I hope no one took my words as that of a sheep that would stay inside when the masses are rising, I was merely cautioning against individual actions to 'spill a pigs blood' acting alone. I wish I was on the west coast in '93 and last night in Oakland... The pictures from last night's protest and mini-uprising are amazing, there are a bunch here:

SF Gate: Protesters in a rage over the fatal shooting of a man by ... (Frederic Larson / The Chronicle) Multimedia (image)

Also, the killer police officer pig has resigned:

Comrade Langalibalele, if you don't mind me asking, why are you not with NPDUM anymore? They seem to be doing great work across the country even though I have never personally worked with them (I don't think they have a Hartford, CT chapter).

Also, I hope people know that I don't support preachers/ministers when they tell us to calm down and wait, to stay at home and mourn instead of taking to the streets. I commented on such a case that recently happend when the police murdered Justin Elmore in Augusta, GA here:

The Police Killing Of Justin Elmore

my comments from that post:

But while the community was angered by the police repression and resistance flared up a couple of times as a result of that anger, there were typical local reformist leaders that came out to blame the victim. Consider Example A, Macedonia baptist Church Pastor Gregor M. Fuller (who delivered Justin Elmore’s eulogy):

Here is journalist Johnny Edwards’ account:

[[Macedonia Baptist Church Pastor Gregory M. Fuller delivered a moving eulogy. He said God can bring good from his death, and he called for young people to honor his memory by getting educations and ridding themselves of “the welfare mentality.”

At one point during the service the Rev. Fuller asked a Tubman Middle School student named Carlos to stand up.

“That’s one brother that ain’t gonna’ be lost in the street,” he said. “We can save our young people, so they don’t end up messed up.”]]

THE WELFARE MENTALITY?!?!? Is this really the time to be speaking on the “welfare mentality”?!?! Well speaking of honoring the memory of Justin Elmore why don’t we start by not blurring the issues and playing into the right-wing’s hands. What the hell does a welfare mentality have to do with being murdered in cold-blood by a police officer? And by saying that ‘Carlos’ won’t end up “messed up” the pastor was basically saying that Elmore was “messed up.” Like as if he was some unfixable automon that could never be straightened out. A community is outraged by police violence and the pastor comes over talking about messed up youths and welfare mentalities. How much more bankrupt can you get? Well, here Fuller is again:

[[Dr. Gregory Fuller, Pastor, Macedonia Baptist Church: “There’s nothing to be mad about until the investigation is complete. We want to make sure that justice prevails.”

It is the unified message going out to the city of Augusta.

Dr. Fuller: “As leaders of this community, we join together in calling for calm. Again I say, we are calling for calm as we await the outcome of the ongoing investigation by the GBI.”]]

You must be joking Dr. Fuller!! There’s nothing to be mad about until the investigation is complete?!?!?! See, this is the role of a reformist community leader such as Dr. Fuller. He comes out and tells the angry and emboldened communtiy members to stop taking to the streets, to be “calm” and wait for the police to tell us if the police did anything wrong. How can we trust the police to tell us what is REALLY going on?!
