The entire chapter is written show that white people (devils) can practice Islam but their nature is not created in Islam but by their practice of Islam they can avert the destruction:

They were attending a meeting (lecture). That is not "joining".

Many times the Messenger spoke to the devil. He was not scared... in fact the devil knows that the Messenger spoke the truth... in further fact... the devil has may records, books and newspapers where in the Messenger wrote or spoke truth.
