Important Update on Russell "Maroon" Shoats

Just got a call tonight from Theresa Shoatz, Maroon's
daughter, who lives here in Philly. She said Maroon
informed her that he has prostate cancer. Apparently
he's really shaken up over it given the poor medical
treatment he can expect from the prison medical staff.

Theresa is working up a petition for her dad that
will ask the Governor and the PA DOC to allow Maroon to
have an outside doctor come into the prison and examine
him.

There will be an online petition available soon, so
i'll forward it to everyone once it's available. In
the meantime, Theresa asked if people can drop a line to
Maroon, to boost his spirits. He told her that he's
dealt with alot of situations in his life, dodged a
few bullets but this is something that he has no control
over without outside support.

Russel Maroon Shoats is a Black (New Afrikan) POW. Maroon is imprisoned for his activities on behalf of Black Liberation.

In 1967, Maroon was a founding member of Philadelphia's Black Unity Council (BUC). The BUC eventually merged with the Black Panther Party, and Maroon became a member of the Philadelphia's BPP chapter.

In 1970, Maroon and five other comrades were accused of attacking a Philadelphia Police station, resulting in the death and wounding of several police officers. This attack was carried out in response to the unjustified deaths in the Black community commited by these officers.

After being accused of this attack he joined the BLA and participated in the revolutionary underground movement. He was eventually arrested in January 1972. Maroon is serving multiple life sentences. Most of his time in prison has been spent in control units in which he is locked in his cell for 22-24 hours a day.

my letter to some of them have been opened at some point,when it was returned to me,the one for sekou odinga came open,to my amazement,i never said anything bad in it though!
