| We Must Stay In Contact With Our POW's Behind Enemy Lines Program!!!
Revolutionary Greetings Warriors Many Of us are concerned and give thanks to our many Prisoners Of War who are in concentration camps, all of whom need our support, I know we can take a few moments out of our time, to write to our Warriors if its just to let them know, they aren't alone. When contacting our Warriors please follow these guidelines in your letter: Contacting Political Prisoners Always include a non-P.O. Box return address. For a reply, include a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope. Ask before you send any books, articles, etc. Some prisons may prohibit certain material. Display humility and patience. These are real people fighting for their lives, with families and projects. (Yes, many stay busy.) Tell them who you are (name/gender/age/race, etc.), a little about your political beliefs, your level of community activism and why you are writing. Don't badger someone to write you back. Do not press for details on cases pending, unless you have information that can lead to proving someone's innocence. If all of us can each select one of our Warriors and post who we selected, so that we can effectively contact them all. This is a the goal we can easily acheive doesnt cost much but is priceless in terms of our Warriors, Im looking forward to all to support this important program, hopefully we can get the youth to carry on this soon to be tradition... Compiled List Of POW's Behind Enemy Lines This is a short list, any of our Warriors information that is not listed is just a oversight, Please add any that was missed, we will organize a letter writing & support campaign to our Warriors behind enemy lines.... | Prison Visit
Prison Visit by Monique Code http://www.sfbayview.com/041906/prisonvisit041906.shtml What goes through the mind of a person visiting an inmate in these concentration camps? Why visit people in jail? What do you go through when you visit a loved one? These are questions that many people do not like or want to answer. Some are ashamed to talk about it. Yet, unfortunately, it is so commonplace in our community. This is a revolving system that must stop plaguing our community with the stigma of us being nothing but criminals, alcoholics, drug addicts and hoes. As you read this article, either you or someone you know is in prison doing time. What some inmates donât realize is that not only are they incarcerated, but they place their families in jail as well. Is it fair? Of course not. Unfortunately, itâs reality in the hood as well as in the suburbs. Sadly, so many Black families have to suffer over the wrong choices a family member chooses to make. There are some cases, however, where a person has been caught up in a web for something they did not do. Thatâs another article. As someone who does not have an immediate family member in prison, I am one of many who know firsthand what a family member or anyone goes through when they go to see their loved ones in prison. It is mentally, spiritually and financially challenging. To say that a human being can handle the environment of a prison is insane. It is truly heartbreaking to witness a loved one having no control over their lives. Allow me to share what I go through on a monthly basis. To prepare myself for a visit with our dear comrade Brother Jamal Hart, I must schedule the time frame that works best for me. Then the finances come into play. Like you, I got bills to pay, and a sista gotta eat! I have to put money aside to make sure I donât get stuck on the five hour journey to his facility from New York City. Tolls, gas, food and accommodations must be covered. I also have the option to take two buses up there. The total for the trip if I take the bus route is around $400. If I decide to drive, it runs me around $200 more because I have to count gas and tolls. Remember, this is a monthly expense! There are plenty of families who spend more than that to visit their loved ones. If theyâre in a state facility, families have to accept collect calls from them. Fortunately, the federal facilities do allot a certain amount of minutes each month per inmate that the inmate can pay for. The maximum they can stay on a call is 15 minutes. Believe me, the prepaid calls are a big help! In closing, the prison system is designed to break an individualâs spirit and their ability to function in the world once they are released. It is also designed to break families apart. Some families cannot visit their relatives due to the financial burden. We as a community must be clear that people who are incarcerated are still human beings. They and their families need our support regardless of the reason they are in there. If you do not decide to be there for them, ask yourself this question: Who should be there for you? Monique Code is a writer who lives in New York City. Email her at moniquecode@hotmail.com.

SAMPLE LETTER Office of the Governor Rick Perry PO Box 12428 Austin TX 78711 March 14, 2006 Dear Governor Perry, Derrick Frazier #999284, an inmate at the Polunsky Unit in Livinston, Texas, is scheduled to be executed on August 31, 2006. I and many others strongly believe that this would be a gross miscarriage of justice, and I urge you with all my heart to grant Mr. Frazier a stay of execution. There are some serious doubts that Mr. Frazier committed the crime. There is a lack of material evidence to link him to the crime for which he is sentenced to die. He did not get to confer with legal counsel when he was sentenced, and received counsel during his trial by a lawyer that was later sanctioned for his incompetence. There are serious questions about the circumstances under which his âconfessionâ took place. There are enough questions in his case to raise doubts that this man committed a capital crime. To execute him with those doubts out there would be a travesty. I implore you to grant a stay of execution to Mr. Frazier, and allow him the time and space to prove his innocence. Sincerely, Signature Name Address City, State Zip STOP THE EXECUTION OF HASAN SHAKUR Minister of Human Rights of the New Afrikan Black Panther Party â Prison Chapter! Born Derrick Frazier, poor Black and wild, convicted of homicide by an all white jury in Texas after a short railroad ride through the legal system, sentenced to die at age twenty, reborn Hasan Shakur on Death Row. Hasan Shakur is a self made man, made in the image of a Black Panther. Schooled by political prisoners like Russell Maroon Shoats and the ghosts of George Jackson and Shaka Sankofa. Hasan is the founder of the Human Rights Coalition (HRC) Texas Chapter, giving hope to and leading the struggle of prisoners and their families for respect of their basic human rights and dignity from his cell on the Polunsky Unit Death Row in Livingston, Texas. He has himself traveled the road from despair to hope, hope for humanity, and in particular his long-suffering New Afrikan people. The New Afrikan Black Panther Party â Prison Chapter (NABPP-PC) is a new-born formation, formed inside the Belly of the Beast of the Amerikan Empire. Composed of young Black prisoners like Hasan Shakur who found redemption in studying the lives of other Black prisoners like Malcolm X and the thoughts of revolutionaries like Mao Tse-Tung, Franz Fanon and Amilcar Cabral. Though widely separated and locked away in cages, they are moving forward together to transform the iron houses of oppression into âschools of liberation,â to transform their fellow prisoners into selfless servants of the people, to transform the oppressed communities from which they come into base areas of cultural, social and political revolution, and to transform and make bright the future of the world. Comrade Hasan Shakur is a valuable asset to the struggle for the future. We must go all out to save his live.. We do not have much time! His execute date is August 31, 2006! | Now is a GREAT time....
... to shout out one (or several) POW/PP's with a happy new year card! Don't feel that because they are on lockdown that they wouldn't appreciate your best wishes, cuz they would! If you're uncomfortable writing a letter, just get a card (or a box of cards) and write a short note, even if it's two sentences, and send it off! They have given SO MUCH, and have come to believe that NOBODY even knows of their sacrifices. How f'd up must *that* feel! You can put a smile on their face and restore some joy to their spirit. OK?

| Writing a Political Prisoner Writing a Political Prisoner Here are a few example and ideas I have come up with when we write our political prisoners. • Know as much as you can about their case before writing them. If limited information is available, try to gain their view —ask how things went down and how they were treated, etc. • Don’t treat them as a case study! They are humans as well as you and I are. They are treated as animals and objects enough while incarcerated so, show a little consideration. • Remember that prison life is quite stressful and lonely. Try to be supportive and upbeat in your correspondences and use tact when writing (Don’t ask questions like “Have you ever dropped the soap before…” • Don’t spill your life story. Although the political prisoner may be a person you would kick it with on the outside, you never know whose hands your letters will end up in, so be careful with your personal information. • Don’t send large amounts of money. Make sure you check with the facility and how you can properly send money for commissary or other items. Prisons usually require that all money be sent via a postal money order. When I write a prisoner, I write quotes that I have found inspiring, stories about situations I have been through, current events, etc. I keep the letters friendly and ask about their appeals, upcoming parole hearings, etc and what actions we on the outside, can take. I also ask them to share a bit about themselves, whatever they feel comfortable in sharing, that is. For those that are worried about the safety of using their home address, there is a P.O Box available through the forum which can be used to correspond with political prisoners. Inquire for more details. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated! (Also review the first post in this sticky) For those that need a template to get started, let me know and I will furnish one for you. UHURU SASA! DO NOT LET THEM BE OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND! |
