      Arrow What is POP3 Email?

      0 Not allowed! Not allowed!
      Question:
      What is POP3 Email?

      Answer:

POP3 means "post office protocol, version 3".

It is a protocol for getting e-mail off of a web server.

If you use Outlook Express, Outlook, Netscape Mail, or
      Eudora you're using POP3.

Some web-based e-mail accounts use this protocol as well.

I know that Hotmail and Yahoo (for a price) allow you to get
your mail via POP3. AOL does not.

So THAT'S what that is. I had been wondering about it from a while. Thank you Sister Jahness for clearing that up.

Question: so would using POP3 mail be more advantageous than using a web-based e-mail account?

      Greetings Ifasehun!

Much appreciation for this most valuable resource. I had a similar list and couldn't figure out where I had it on my harddrive or which computer it was on to post it here in reference to the POP3 thread.

It is vital that users know the names of these mail servers, so that their email client can be setup properly. Not all the time the information is available from the ISP, unless you do a detail search to find out why your email client is not working properly.

      Thanks again for this one.

      Peace!

I need your help. I use Entourage (Mac's version of Outlook). I for some reason can't send mail via AOL's IMAP server. Even using 'smtp.mail.aol.com' didn't work. Any suggestions?

      Greetings AfroNinpo!

See if this helps, short version:

If the above screenshot does not have the info you need, go to the below listed website and carefully read for a more detailed version of using Entourage to send email via aol. Also make sure you are using the suggest "port" as well.

**NOTE** Make sure and follow the links on the website thoroughly for more detail, even if it looks as if it is info you might know already. Also make sure the info you use is specific to your version of Ebtourage, sometimes it makes a diference.

Let me know if this info was useful, if not we can try something else.
