How many private messages are you allowed?

When I first joined the site a few days ago I think I was allocated space for about 50 messages - now the control panel says I am only allowed 1 message even though I haven't got any messages stored. Are other people having this problem?

Welcome, OnMyWavelength. Could you possibly have composed 49 messages already? The maximum private message storage includes messages that you have sent, that may have saved copies that you might need to delete. If this is not the case either, please advise. Asante.

Thanks for the welcome. No I haven't composed any messages at all and have only received one automatic message from admin - I've deleted that as according to folder controls I can only receive one message at a time:

Inbox contains 0 messages.
You have 0 messages stored, of a total 1 allowed.
