| just for thought
From a person in your situation...senior year of college, etc... this may be kinda unorthadox, but its something -------- Buy a round trip ticket from your usa-home to whichever african area you believe you want to go, look up information, weather, people, customs, see where you can hang the best...[try to buy a flexible return date ticket] Save enough money to survive for 3-6 months without a job. Go find a job when you get there... or just enjoy your time there, even if you can't get a job. -Because most african areas aren't hooked up to the internet like that it'll be easier to be there to walk the streets, read the newspapers, etc. -You're a person with an american education, you'll most likely get a job. -Find a contact in the area, maybe a university which might be online, send an email to a physics prof, and say I'm an african living in america who wants to emigrate, can you help me out? -Be brave.

Alafia, Learn 06, a good website is escapeartist.com. I lived in Africa for 5 years and getting a job can be a challenge. I managed to get a job with what they call an NGO (non governmental organization) and I got one with the US Peace Corps. Both had their advantages and disadvantages but when you're just trying to make it happen they were both blessings. NGO's are those charity type organizations religious and otherwise. It's not easy to get a job with them when you're there but it can be possible. The Peace Corps is very stable and you get trained in what you need to know with regards to the languages and culture of where you are. The best way to go is to just make something happen for yourself. If you brought a silkscreen machine and made t-shirts to sell that would be the best for example. If you did go solo it would be a good idea to have about 3-6 months worth of money with you to start. I went that way and 2,500 dollars carried me for about a year. If I did it again I could probably get by for a little longer this time on the same amount. |

respecting Vision's choices, we have discussed the dangers of using missionary groups and the Peace Corps to get to Afrika. The Peace Corps is an offshoot of the CIA. Many students are used to relay seemingly innocent information which is used to track militias, undermind local governments and assess the political savvy of communities where propoganda is planned. In fact your presence as a rep of the CIA (peace corps) is a form of propoganda which gives the false impression that Americans and AMerican youth are not a danger to Afrika. Amerian youth are the future capitalists and imperialists. Many, including those that claim to be liberals and "revolutionaries" end up as the oil that keeps the cogs and wheels of world imperialism running. I dont have to go into any detail to discuss the evil machine behind missionary groups which are responsible for vast cultural and economic crimes, which include clandestinely helping corporations get communities to sign off natural resource access. Missionaries are so hated in some parts of the world that they are banned and subject to jail time. I wish the same was the truth in just a third of Afrika. with that said, I would strongly discourage any person from using the Peace Corps or any Christian based group to get a ticket to Afrika. Dont try to get a holy, cultural experience out of a position as a pawn for eurocentrism.
