Pride Weekend: Remember & Represent for Queen Nzinga / Wendy Maxwel Pride 2005 - REMEMBER AND REPRESENT FOR QUEEN NZINGA
STATUS FOR ALL UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES
Last year, Queen Nzinga (Wendy Maxwell) was kicking butt at Pride.
Through
CKLN she worked to amplify her communities' voices to the streets and
the
airwaves -- and also to bring Pride to her communities.
Wendy Maxwell lived amongst us for seven years, as one of the tens of
thousands of people fighting for status and the right to stay in Canada
--
until March 8 2005, when she was captured and quickly deported. She
remains strong and determined to return with her children to Canada,
where
she made her home for so long as a proud contributor to the community.
This weekend, let's march in the spirit of Nzinga and the countless
others
who are stolen from our families, our workplaces, our social scenes,
from
our beds and backyards, from our schools and offices and coffeeshops.
Let's march in Toronto, at the same time as non-status people and their
allies are coming to the end of their historic seven-day "Solidarity
Across Borders" march from Montreal to Ottawa -- a march demanding
status,
dignity and justice for all.
Stop the detentions and deportations! STATUS FOR ALL! Join the Wendy Maxwell Support Committee contingents
in the Dyke March and the Pride Parade. SATURDAY JUNE 25, DYKE MARCH BEGINS: 2pm at Church & Hayden MEET: Free brunch @ noon
