“The Tradition Continues.” The Annual International Locks Conference: Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Expo is celebrating its 12th year of networking and presenting two days full of culture, informative workshops and a fun-fill and powerful family and community event. The 12th Annual International Locks Conference: Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Expo, Saturday & Sunday, October 7 & 8, 2006 --11:00 AM - 8:0 PM, will be held at Laborers' Local 332 Union Hall~1310 Wallace Street Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Our theme this year is “Emancipate Our Minds.”

The Locks Conference is organized by the Kuumba Family and sponsored by LeRoi & Cinzia Simmon's Full Service Salon, Syreeta Scott & Duafe Holistic Hair Care, Gerri Mayo & Endless Creations for You, Chic Afrique, Nubian Essence, Sankofa Consulting Group, Amadi Wellness Connection and other business and community organizations. This year the Universal Negro Improvement Association (U.N.I.A.), The Harambee Radio Network and The Black Vegetarian Society of The Tri-State Area join us as active sponsors of this much anticipated cultural event.

In addition to raising consciousness, supporting our collective businesses this year the Kuumba family will celebrate the third year of Know Thyself Youth Day by including a Know thyself youth essay challenge. The Locks Conference not only celebrates the wonders and beauty of our natural hair it also offers an opportunity for folks to be exposed to wholistic health workshops, natural hair care specialists, outstanding spoken word artists, healthy vegetarian/vegan foods, and a host of creativity craftspeople and vendors. This year we also celebrate the new release of our commemorative publication Hair Piecez: The Anthology.

Back by popular demand is the Building Healthy Families Healing Circle lead by Queen Mutima Imani from Oakland, California and Belly dancing for womb healing by the Bellydancers of Color (BOCA) featuring Dr. Sunyatta Amen. Every year we have a host of internationally know drummers and entertainers. The two days are full with many more presenters, children activities and surprise performances. That is why people keep coming year after year. Our Annual International Locks Conference: Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Expo designed for and by indigenous people of African descent is the original and longest consecutive running natural hair conference in the country. It is always held the first weekend in October and the Locks Conference is more than a cultural and natural hair event; it is memorable experience with something of value for all who attend.

Mark your calendar, Saturday & Sunday, October 7 & 8, 2006 --11:00 AM - 8:0 PM, will be held at Laborers' Local 332 Union Hall~1310 Wallace Street Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All events are open to the public with a small donation requested.
