MOVE/MUMIA/HASAN SHAKUR PHILLY EVENTS! =========================================== Ona MOVE! On Wednesday, August 16, 2006, join renowned revolutionary Catalan attorney Francesc Arnau for a discussion on the international movement for political prisoners. He will be speaking at the A Space, on Baltimore Avenue, between 48 and 49^th Streets in West Philadelphia, at 7:30 pm. Arnau is an attorney who has steadfastly worked for over ten years towards solidarity between political prisoner and revolutionary movements internationally. In his offices based in Barcelona, Vic, Lleida, and elsewhere in Spain and Catalunya, Arnau works closely with Anarchist communities, Catalunyan and Basque nationalists, political prisoners internationally, as well as with Arab and African immigrant communities under attack. Arnau has been a part of a group effort to bring representatives of U.S. political prisoners on speaking tours in Europe. Ramona Africa has taken several tours on behalf of the MOVE 9 and Mumia and Nzingha Conway recently toured on behalf of her husband, Marshall Eddie Conway. Arnau makes an annual trip to the United States to visit with members of the MOVE 9, Mumia Abu Jamal, Marshall Eddie Conway, and others. He writes chronicles of these trips, including his involvement in demonstrations, meetings with government and prison officials in support of political prisoners, and his perception of the movement stateside. These chronicles are in Catalan and Spanish and are currently being translated into English. Arnau’s work is similar to that of U.S. Attorney Lynn Stewart whose work in support of revolutionary struggles has garnered the ire of the U.S. government. Stewart is facing prison time because the government wants to make an example of her to dissuade other attorneys from effectively representating revolutionary defendants. Like Stewart, Arnau has faced persecution for his commitment to revolution. Despite governmental attempts to stop him, he has persisted in educating his community on struggles internationally, and bringing his local work to the global revolutionary community. His example, and that of the community of committed, freedom fighters he works with is impressive in its consistency and effectiveness. Come hear Arnau and others discuss specifics of political prisoner’s cases he is involved with and how we can continue to build a strategic, international network. Ona MOVE! FREE THE MOVE 9! August 8th, 2006 is the twenty-eighth anniversary of the siege on MOVE headquarters, which resulted in the unjust incarceration of innocent MOVE members. Today, they are still locked down in Pennsylvania prisons. In two years they will be reviewed for possible parole. Those of us in this movement understand that the state will break any and all laws to keep them incarcerated. This is why we are continuing to up the pressure for their release. We held our annual demonstration on August 5th, for their release. Recently, Puerto Rican independentista, Antonio Camacho Negron, was moved to Philadelphia's federal prison, where he has been thrown in isolation, force fed drugs and denied medication, among other abuses. Given the unity and interconnectedness of this struggle, organizers for Antonio and the MOVE 9 combined the demonstrations to provide more strength and support for all our political prisoners. Representatives from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, as well as far off locales such as Barcelona, Spain; Berlin, Germany; and Paris, France all showed their consistent commitment to the release of all political prisoners. We congregated in front of Philadelphia's Liberty Bell, their symbol of freedom. Our purpose was to expose this lie: how can you say there is freedom in this country when there are political prisoners? We then marched to the Philadelphia Federal Prison, circling the building in the hopes that Antonio could hear our voices, see our faces; as well as all the other incarcerated peoples. Banners, posters, and signs were unfurled in front of the prison so that prisoners could see them as we chanted, sang, and spoke in solidarity with them. Inmates pressed their faces against the windows, raised their fists, wrote signs, and banged on the glass in solidarity. The street was filled with our voices and their beating on the walls. Some inmates wrote of the abuse they face within the prison. We acknowledge what they are enduring and are taking action in their defense. Many at the Philadelphia Federal Prison had been incarcerated with MOVE people as well. They were influenced by MOVE's example and politicized. Now, the MOVE 9's children are standing in support of them. The same children who were ripped from their parent's arms on August 8, 1978. The same children who were robbed of their parent's presence as they grew into adulthood. But, despite this system's attempts, these children grew into revolutionaries just like their parents. The event on August 5th was powerful and heavy in the unity of this struggle. Next time, we need you there. We need you to contact the Pennsylvania parole boards on behalf of the MOVE 9. You to contact Lynn Abraham and question her as to why she continues to allow the incarceration of people she *knows* are innocent. You to question Philadelphia's Federal Prison on the conditions the inmates are living under. You to pressure Philadelphia's prison into releasing Antonio Camacho Negron back to his family, his people, his land: Puerto Rico. You to write articles, emails, and make phone calls to radio stations about these issues, Mumia's illegal incarceration, Leonard Peltier's illegal incarceration, that of Russell Maroon Shoatz, Marshall Eddie Conway, and so many others! This movement is growing and flourishing. Be a part of it! ONA MOVE! LONG LIVE JOHN AFRICA! =========================== POST AND FORWARD FAR AND WIDE . . . Begin forwarded message: Greetings friends, HASAN SHAKUR ( DERRICK FRAZIER), MINISTER OF HUMAN RIGHTS of the NEW AFRIKAN BLACK PANTHER PARTY / PRISON CHAPTER, ON DEATH ROW AT THE POLUNSKY UNIT, JUST RECEIVED A NEW EXECUTION DATE OF AUGUST 31ST 2006. URGENT LETTERS; PHONE CALLS; AND FAXES ARE NEEDED. We can force them to halt it again this time too, we did before; maybe we can stop it permanently. Please pull out all the stops, and invent any and all creative media techniques you possess or can dream up, to spread the word through activist channels, and let everyone know they need to write Governor Rick Perry and make the state of Texas end once and for all; this senseless murdering of innocent people like Hasan. New evidence came forward last spring, indicating that there was jury misconduct in Hasan's trial, that compounded the fact that he was assigned an incompetant counsel ( later to be disbarred), and that a witness now also stated that Derrick was not even present at the crime, and that he, the witness; was coached as to what to say in the witness box. These new findings had helped with the last temporary delay, but now their blood-lust desire for their pound of flesh has overcome them once again. And after wiping clean the corners of their systemic drooling fascist delusions... another HUMAN is devoured in the name of "Tidiness"; we must push even harder once again brothers and sisters and intervene to interrupt this feeding frenzy sans digestive aids !! In the coming few days, I will try finish up a revision to an informational flyer/handbill with a letter format on it to follow, that we used with some success earlier for Hasan, that I will attempt to make a downloadable file I can attach to a post for everyone. This will enable y'all to make your own two-sided sheets of your own to copy and distro in your areas. So, stay tuned. To re-acquaint yourselves with the story that brought Hasan to the Polunsky Death Row go to: www.hasanshakur. com, or you can email to Hasan at:<hasanalshakur@yahoo.com <mailto:hasanalshakur%40yahoo.com>> and show your solidarity for him. There are links to his projects and the HRC, Human Rights Coalition; and Operation L.I.F.E. there. But, please don't wait for the handbills, we can start making some calls and faxes now to the Governor at: Office of the Governor, Rick Perry, P.O. Box 12428, Austin, Texas 78711 ( Give him something to think about at his Colorado Street Mansion over the weekend.) Fax: (512) 463-1849 Phone: (512) 463-2000 And please, write to Hasan now too at: Derrick Frazier (Hasan Shakur), TDCJ CID#999284, Polunsky Unit, 3872 F.M. 350 South, Livingston, Texas 77351
