Peeling back the wrapper Breathing in the glorious scent My mouth begins to water I feel my stomach tighten My lips get moist in readiness Wait; I always read before I eat Even though I know if I'm going to eat it when I get it Still I read the label and what's all in it A few unheard names what make me turn this down I notice a few new flavors Others are some of my favorite taste First let me clean off my fingers Don't need any big finger prints on my plate Now let me look at the top of this round chip Pop it in my oven, sample each selection Before I chop it up and save it for later Not it's time to dive right in For First bit to ending swallow I smile at each burst of sensation And I nod my head because it's so good I think I'm getting greedy I carry and take some snacks everywhere I go now Leaving little crumbs everywhere Spilling my meals from my head phones Making others hungry for what I'm eating But I'm greedy and I only have enough for me I know and I'm not ashamed of being a glutton for music Whether it's fresh from the bakery Age long over time and better the older it gets A mistake in the kitchen that caught on Or something for acquired taste I love these sound bites They feed me Gives the silence a voice Brings together apposing clashes mashing them in to Sound bites, sweet enough for the roughest tongue I eat now in quiet just enjoying every taste Jalili B.
