PHOENIX (FinalCall. com ) - On the recent release of her second CD titled, “Shahadah”, Sis. Connie Muhammad (a.k.a. Nutmeg) takes listeners on a lyrical journey through life, love and faith over contemporary jazz, soulful R & B and hip-hop beats.

Sis. Connie, who was born and raised in the Nation of Islam, wants to introduce youth to the Teachings of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad as taught by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan through her music. Sister Connie explains, “The Teachings have given me something meaningful in my music, so I decided to make it a focal point in my songs.” She wrote all the lyrics and arranged the music on this effort.

Tracks on the CD include, “Been Down”, “Faithful”, “Rise”, Rendezvous with Destiny” and the popular “9,000 miles.” This is her first solo CD since 1995 and she is quick to point out that her personal spiritual growth and maturity has affected her artistry.

Although her first CD was available nationally “it was more of me rapping and trying to be a female gangster” she shared. She wanted this musical offering to accurately reflect who she is today. “I was attracted to the world listening to worldly music and today’s youth don’t hear any alternative to what is out there currently,” said Sis. Connie.

Through her growth, life experience plus being influenced musically by classic “old school” music, Sis. Connie made a conscious decision to get back into the studio and record new songs dedicated to the Nation of Islam. “I felt I owed it to Allah and myself to be more true to myself,” she told The Final Call adding that she had turned down record deals from other companies who wanted her to degrade herself and represent an image that was incompatible with Islam. This CD offers a high level of culture and refinement and is appropriate for all ages.
