| The Origins of Me The Origins of Me
I am Caribbean born and raised,
My umbilical chord is buried in the sand of an American Island.
Spit out by the Caribbean Sea I was bound to be raised by paradise.
I am another cast away baby in search of myself.
Mothered by strength, determination, and perseverance,
I proudly embrace my maternal ancestry.
This bond, primarily imbedded in the womb, no man nor fish can conquer.
I am aware of my surname but I live that which I was connected to from birth.
From shore to sea I am a depiction of St. Thomas, head to foot.
I symbolize mango trees, talmond specials, and ten cents titi bread.
I am the Blue Room in Savan, The school up Garden Street,
The church on the Avenue, and the Long Bay Pan Yard.
I am the hymns that Mrs. E sang and the stories that she told.
I am the results of the results of Mr. Roosevelt’s back-breaking work…
I am the talent of Breads and the Charm of Vince,
I am the nurture of Coleen, and best, the love of Avery.
I am proud to be a Caribbean offspring,
Virgin Islands Success in the making…
