| Upcoming World Conference Against Racism WORLD CONFERENCE AGAINST RACISM The 2001 World Conference Against Racism, held in Durban, South Africa, was a significant event in the affairs of the anti-imperialist struggle. It meant everything in terms of spreading a new democratic model for the suffering masses of this small planet. It meant so much that the United States government saw fit to send its number one neo-colonialist operative, then-secretary of state Colin Powell, to derail the WCAR. But the Conference was such a success that only the bombing of the WTC and the subsequent US "war of terror" managed to put a chill on that historic process. Hopefully, the US presidential elections will have no effect on this new conference, either thru cooptation by a neo-colonial black prez, or another derailment by another neo-conservative prez. The Global Afrikan Congress (GAC)-UK has begun its preparations to take the state of anti-African racism in the United Kingdom to the United Nations Review Conference in Geneva in April 2009. The GAC UK has established planning committees to expose mis-information at the upcoming UN Review Conference regarding progress made by the British government with respect to the implementation of the UN WCAR Durban Declaration and Program of Action. At the conclusion of the 2001 WCAR held in Durban, South Africa, all of the participating countries, including Britain agreed to establish actions plans that would address the problem of racial discrimination and racism in British institutions. To date the British government has done very little in this regard; yet want to convey information to the contrary. "Our youth continue to be expelled from schools, flood the prison system and the mental institutions, yet the British government at all levels continue to disregard this growing crisis in the African communities as if to say it is not a crisis," according to the Honourable Alderwoman, Gee Bernard, and GAC UK Co-chair. "What we have seen over the last few years is a concerted effort on the part of the British establishment is to pretend that racism is in the distant past, and therefore, hoping not to have the issue of institutionalized racism discussed in the society." It is against this background that GAC UK Secretary General and trade union activist, Glenroy Watson, place the UN upcoming review conference at the top of his Union RMT second annual reparations conference. Among the special guests invited to the Union Conference were Queen Mother Dorothy Lewis and Cikiah Thomas, Co-representative of the North American Region of the GAC, both of whom made presentations to the conference and participated in a series of working meetings with the Pan African communities in the UK. The purpose of the meetings was to consult regarding the upcoming UN conference and strengthening the bonds between the various Pan African organizations in the UK. Additionally, the two North American representatives assisted in the development of a working plan to bring the truth about British anti-African racism to the international community at the Durban review conference in April 2009. "The participation of our two North American GAC colleagues was extremely useful in helping us to focus on critical strategic plans for the upcoming conference," commented Glenroy Watson. "Over the next eight months, Africans in Britain will be hard at work outreaching, researching, and developing its plan of action to make the outside world understand the insidiousness of British anti-African racism in all of its institutions and social spheres" "We are excited about the prospects of seeing our Global Afrikan Congress colleagues and other African human rights campaigners at the United Nations continuing our demand for reparations and the end to anti-African racism in Britain, and white supremacy throughout the world," concluded Gee Bernard. The GAC International is playing a critical role in ensuring that the information about the non-compliance in the implementation of the Durban Declaration and Program of Action on the part of the European enslavers and colonial exploiters of Africans are front and center of the African agenda at the UN WCAR 2 review process. -30- For further information contact Secretary General, Glenroy Watson at 07956133450 or 07986847691 --------------------------------------- s. e. anderson is author of "The Black Holocaust for Beginners" Social Activism is not a hobby: it's a Lifestyle lasting a Lifetime BLACK EDUCATION FOR LIBERATION | Black Educator --------------------------------------- URC Discuss |

I recall this Conference. It was initiated by the U.N Comissioner For Human Rights, an Irish woman who had been president of her country. The Conference ran for 10-days, 21-31 August, 2001. The U.S. Government did not send a representative, nor did Israel. But Israel had an observer present. The topic of the Conference was "Slavery, Racism & Colonialism." (Private citizens from the U.S. attended.) The issue of a Palestinian State came up. A resolution was passed by the delegates to the Conference condemning Israel as "A Racist State." This was leading toward Palestinian Independence. Now, I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but because the PLO under Arafat were regarded as terrorists I have often asked myself if this conference triggered 9-11, which occurred eleven (11) days after the Conference was over. Since that time there has been a Global War On Terrorism, which guarantees that the Palestinians, or any other "freedom fighters" will not be recognized by the U.S., or Isreal. That they will not win their National Independence. Our People need to take note of this. |

| US to Boycott UN Racism Conference US to Boycott UN Racism Conference What else is new? Bloodsucken US imperialism! Supposed former anti-apartheid fighter in the whites house caint change that, in fact, "Prove you are one of us, bwa!" That's how the game is played. --- In Unite_and_Resist_Campaign@yahoogroups.com, "S. E. Anderson" <seanderson@...wrote: NOTE: Another reminder of the imperial and white supremacist nature of the US government- in spite of a Blackface in the highest place. And note how the Times calls a conference AGAINST racism a "racism" conference. --------------------------------------- February 27, 2009-- nytimes.com US to Boycott UN Racism Conference ================================== By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration said Friday that the United States will boycott an upcoming U.N. conference on racism unless its final document is changed to drop all references to Israel and the defamation of religion. At the same time, it said the U.S. would participate as an observer in meetings of the U.N. Human Rights Council, a body that was shunned by the Bush administration for anti-Israel statements and failing to act on abuses in Sudan and other states. The racism conference is a follow-up to the contentious 2001 meeting in the South African city of Durban that was dominated by clashes over the Middle East and the legacy of slavery. The U.S. and Israel walked out midway through that meeting over a draft resolution that singled out Israel for criticism and likened Zionism -- the movement to establish and maintain a Jewish state -- to racism. Israel and Canada had already announced they would will boycott the next World Conference Against Racism in Geneva from April 20-25, known as Durban II, but the Obama administration decided it wanted to assess the negotiations before making a decision on U.S. participation. Last week, the State Department sent a team to Geneva to attend preparatory meetings for the conference but on Friday it said the closing statement under consideration mirrored the 2001 draft and was unacceptable. ''Sadly ... the document being negotiated has gone from bad to worse, and the current text of the draft outcome document is not salvageable,'' spokesman Robert Wood said in a statement. ''As a result, the United States will not engage in further negotiations on this text, nor will we participate in a conference based on this text,'' he said. The United States will not take part in the conference unless its final statement does not single out any one country or conflict for criticism nor embrace the draft's stance on the condemnation or take up the issue of reparations for slavery, Wood said. ''We would be prepared to re-engage if a document that meets these criteria becomes the basis for deliberations,'' he said. Israel, which was deeply concerned when the administration sent a delegation to the preparatory meeting, lobbied hard for the U.S. to stay away from the conference and pro-Israel groups hailed the decision. ''President Obama's decision not to send U.S. representation to the April event is the right thing to do and underscores America's unstinting commitment to combating intolerance and racism in all its forms and in all settings,'' the American Israel Public Affairs Committee said. ''Its a clear signal to the international community that this administration refuses to validate the hijacking of human rights by regimes led by Libya and Iran,'' said the Simon Wiesenthal Center, referring to countries that are supporting the draft statement. U.S. officials said they are pressing European nations to boycott the conference unless there are revisions to the final statement. The Netherlands and France have already expressed concern about the contents. Howard Berman, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said he hoped the U.S, position ''will galvanize like-minded countries and those who have been sitting on the sidelines to end this mindless march toward an outcome that serves none of the victims of racism, xenophobia and intolerance.'' Although it announced the boycott of the Durban II conference, the State Department also said it would attend, as an observer, meetings of the U.N. Human Rights Council that the United States had previously stayed away from of criticism of Israel it said was one-sided. Despite those concerns, Wood said the Obama administration believes that ''it furthers our interests and will do more (to) advance human rights if we are part of the conversation and present at the councils proceedings.'' ''These times demand seriousness and candor, and we pledge to closely work with our partners in the international community to avoid politicization and to achieve our shared goals,'' he said. The Obama administration had declined to speak during the council's review earlier this month of the human rights records of China, Russia and other countries the United States has previously criticized for abuses. ------ Lederer contributed to this report from the United Nations and Associated Press writer Frank Jordans contributed from Geneva. --------------------------------------- s. e. anderson is author of "The Black Holocaust for Beginners" Social Activism is not a hobby: it's a Lifestyle lasting a Lifetime BLACK EDUCATION FOR LIBERATION Black Educator ---------------------------------------

Durban I ran from 21-31 Aug., 2001. Nine (9) days later 9-11 occured. Is it coincidential that the issue was a Palestinian State, or that Israel was found to be a "racist state," or that Arafat suddenly died a mysterious death, or even the fact that there has been a "globaal war" on terror, ever since ???? Same players with the same attitudes. What will happen next?
