He was influenced by many revolutionaries such as Frantz Fanon, Aime Cesaire, Marcus Garvey, etc. and like them, he believed in the Black Power philosophy. He was one of the people who started the Black Consciousness Movement in South Africa through SASO (South African Students' Organisation) as a development towards Black Power.

Steve Biko was brutally murdered by white people in South Africa on the 12th
of September 1977, he was only 30 years old at the time, being born on the
18th of Dec 1946.
He was influenced by many revolutionaries such as Frantz Fanon, Aime
Cesaire, Marcus Garvey, etc. and like them, he believed in the Black Power
philosophy. He was one of the people who started the Black Consciousness
Movement in South Africa through SASO (South African Students' Organisation) as a development towards Black Power.
Although there is mention of Steve Biko's name sometimes in the South
African media, there is not much said about the philosophies he stood for.
The 18th of December (Steve Biko's birthday) this year falls on a Sunday,
which makes it a good day for Black Consciousness/Black Power organisations
internationally to remember the birth of this forgotten hero and to clarify
the relevance of his philosophies not only for our time, but for the next
5000 years and for eternity (the survival of the Black race will always
depend on the fact that, like other races, the destiny of Black people must
lie in the hands of Black people themselves)
"The most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the
oppressed" - Steve Biko
"Until the lions write their own history, tales of hunting will always
glorify the hunter" - Dr. Kgalushi Drake Koka

Welcome to the discussion. It is great seeing you.
Yes, I seldom hear anything about the South Afrikan
Students Organization.
I remember when they had a fire for liberation. I am
sure the hunger is still there, but how active it is might
be another question.
Steven Biko should never be forgotten.
Let me know what you come up. I look forward to
the continued dialogue with you.
Peace!
