Family Reunions

Greetings, Everyone. Does your family hold family reunions? How often? If so,do you attend your family reunions? Why or why not (if you care to share)? Also, what -if anything- does your family do to reinforce the acknowldedgement of the familial/spiritual/ancestral ties? Is there anything done special for your ancestors at family reunions?

I've been to one family reunion 1 years ago in Alabama. I wish there were more that to attend. My mom has a partial family tree.

I feel like I had family reunion this week with my fam coming down to my little apt. There was 10 folks at my house for most the weekend.

My family has only had one. Death and destruction followed after it. I think that put people off (in my family) from having another one.

All of my family is in one area so we get together at LEAST 4 times a year. A handful of us stay in the same neighborhood so we get together more often. I attend when I'm home of course. But less as of late.

Thanks for responding, Truth, Rebel A and Fenix. Truth, with your skills maybe you should organize one (family reunion). Dang, Fenix. That is nice to have so much of your family in one area.

BUT DANGGGG, rebelAfrika!! What y'allz ancestors tryna tell Y'ALL!?!? You might not know, but you might want to try and find out sooner than later! lol Seriously though, I wonder about the reasons/connections behind those things.

My family on both sides of the family have family reunions every two years (each family attends the other's reunions, for most of us are double-related). For some reason or another, I never liked them...but now, being older and able to understand a lot of what has happened, I really dont mind going.

They never really poured libation for our ancestors, but they sing deeply from the soul on hymns and give silent prayers for those who have passed.

The children go to Disney World or some theme park, or, when money is low, hang out for the weekend...movies, skating rink, parties, clubs, beach, and what have you.

Everyday is an organized day. And the last day is the only day when EVERYONE is there. Go to church early morning, go to Aint(aunty) Ora'Maes for breakfast, go the park, go home, and be back for the big dinner at the center.
