| How to find a supportive spiritual network How to find a supportive spiritual network
Greetings board,
I have posted on here before but it's been a good while. I've been reading a lot through the messages on this forum lately and I thought it would be a good place to start asking a few questions.
I've been wanting to get a lot closer to my spirituality and get involved with either orisha or vodoun (I'm from Haiti, so I am inclined to want to know more about that). The problem is, I come from a family that doesn't practice either of those religions and are satisfied with keeping it that way. The only person that could have offered me some wisdom is my grandmother, who used to be a priestess and she passed away 2 years ago. It's been years now since I feel i've been called to this, but I got nowhere to turn for guidance or even just simple information. It's frustrating. So I was wondering if there's anyway I can learn about these religions without really having a network. I don't even feel this is a good idea, as I believe that a community is necessary for spiritual growth. However, I can't find those people anywhere, or usually will meet people who don't want to have anything to do with it.
It's sort of strange, i know, but I thought I'd ask. Its seeems like the community is so much stronger and numerous in the US. Also, more open to new students/initatiates. I've always felt that here, if you were not literally born into one of those religions, you were not welcome in. It's very hush and secretive. Should I just randomly approach someone? I'm not sure how to go about this....
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Give thanks
