We shouldn't think of it as worship, but reverence for the ancestors. Many cultures, especially the Ife, believe that you don't know yourself unless you know your family at least 7 generations behind you. You are a comglomerate of the genes within your leneage. Your bones hold the secrets and the tales of the people who came before you. You could be an incarnate of your great, great, great grandfather or mother. So it is best that you know who they are and what they/you did, so you can call on that energy in your time of need. This is why knowing your ancestors are important and goes beyond simple "praise." It is the calling of energy that is essential you that will revitalize you in a time of need. Your ancestors hold the key to your existence, so getting to know your ancestors helps to figure out who you are and what your purpose is. You are here to overcome a challenge that you didn't master in your past life. That's another reason for knowing the ancestors and what they have done. Because that ancestor could be in fact you and your purpose is better known by knowing their strengths and weaknesses. Asar Imhotep |

I am glad you Tehuti, that you mentioned the doubling in the cells. This is the secret behind the doubling system in Kemetic mathematics. The generations can be broken down like this:
and the list goes on and on. This system used in addition and multiplication, is at least 26,000 years old found on what is called the Ishango bones from Zaire. This was the prototype later adopted by the people of the Nile Valley. Nehesu people migrated in small spirts across the sahara to end up in west Africa. The same systems are used there. Cheikh Anta Diop makes the links quite apparent in basically all of his works. But back to the topic. Although you may have been born on a specific contemporary date, you are technically millions of years old as the genes are still present within you. The memory is in the bones. This is why scientist always go for the marro (SP?) to date things and to find out exactly what happened thousands of years ago within a given population. But all of our religious practices, in traditional Africa, is based on science and using that body of knowledge to manipulate energy to work to our advantage within this lifetime.
