The Talking Drum Collective

We are asking for the Unity and collaboration of all Pan-Afrikans, Afrocentricists, activists, and grassroots organizations, websites, mailing lists, news services, individuals, students and etc. to get involved with Grassroots Call to Action/Action Alert Campaign.

Each month we will issue a "Call to Action" that addresses some problem that plagues the poor, disenfranchised, wrongfully imprisoned, undereducated, unemployed, culturally broken and politically destitute. If you believe in the spirit of ACTION and the POWER of PEOPLE, we ask you to join us.

OCTOBER / NOVEMBER ACTION ALERT

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!!

TITLE: Support Needed for Sundiata Acoli / NY 21 Film Projects

TIME FRAME: Two Months!

PLAN OF ACTION: Donations urgently needed to finance the independent docufilms of FieldUp Productions!

PURPOSE OF ACTION: Our message is simple. We need your help to tell the true story of the continuing efforts of African-American movements by supporting our monumental documentary film projects. Our project is told by actual members who experienced the movement. A Power Sun and Wrack 21 are very important projects to be shared with the community at large. The voices and stories of actual members of the New York Chapter of the Black Panther Party drive the documentary, as well as dramatic elements and interviews with scholars and others involved in the case. It is rare that an almost forgotten part of the past is told with such passion and a sense of urgency. But the past is not forgotten by those who continue to work for the liberation of all people from poverty and violence, who love freedom, and who want to ensure that the sacrifices of our forefathers and mothers were not in vain.

The film’s director, writer and producer, Dawn McGhee says, “This film combines the true history of a dynamic movement, while re-creating the accounts of his story”. As many of you are aware, the dramatic re-enactments began this month with Irma P. Hall, Omar Wiseman, Mutulu "M1" Olugabala and Stic.man. Words are not enough to express our sincerity and appreciation to these individuals giving their time and talent to help us tell our story and it's commitment like theirs, as well as others on board, that show us how committed to Victory they are. We must pool together our resources and spread the word to family, friends, colleagues, and others to visit the website and donate!!!! Their and your help is greatly appreciated by political prisoners, prisoners of war, exiled comrades, the community, and of course, FieldUp Productions.

WEBSITES: Field Up Productions :::::::::::: and MySpace.com - A Power Sun - Otisville Prison, New York - Afro-beat / Alternative / Experimental - www.myspace.com/apowersun. The myspace.com site contains a fantastic array of photos of the production currently underway as well as a few videos in support of the project, please check it out!

WHAT WE SHOULD DO NOW:

1. Donations are the difference between these projects going forward or being halted, there is a tremendous sense of urgency. Please visit the FieldUp Website to make donations via PayPal. The amount is not important. Every cent helps.
2. Subscribe to the FieldUp newsletter, which is a fantastic way to keep up with production via e-mail. Please subscribe today at Field Up Productions ::::::::::::.

GOALS & OUTCOMES:

GOAL: To acquire the necessary support to insure the completion of these very important and... [Read More]

Black August / September Action Alert: Support The SF Bay View

Black August / September ACTION ALERT

The San Francisco Bay View has provided the Afrikan community with world and local news for over 16 years. Recently print media has taken a big hit, the kind of hit that small newspapers such as the SF Bay View are not able to absorb and keep moving. This coupled with a recent hack attempt that depleted the number of articles available on the website has forced the staff to convert the SF Bay View into an online only publication. With over 1 million hits per month, it is clear that the SF Bay View continues to reach people but not having a print version effectively takes it out of the hands of the poorest of our people who don’t own computers as well as the those of us behind bars, those who benefit most from the fearless information provided by the SF Bay View. With sufficient financial support, Bay View staff will begin in October to print the paper monthly.

Since its inception the SF Bay View has told the stories of our heroes, providing the community with relevant news and giving young journalists and photographers a platform for their work. After giving so freely for nearly two decades, after 16 years of service, of fearlessly telling the truth, of an unparalleled commitment to justice, the San Francisco Bay View is in need of emergency financial assistance. From Haiti to Zimbabwe, from Oakland to New York and everywhere in between, the SF Bay View tells our stories, our struggles, our triumphs; it is our news source and it is our responsibility to provide the financial support it needs.

This photo from the Bay View's front page was taken May 17, 2007, of the MOVE children speaking at the historic rally in Philadelphia outside the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals while the judges took up Mumia Abu-Jamal's appeal. Thanks largely to the photographer, Bay View Associate Editor and POCC Minister of Information JR, the Bay View appealed directly to Black youth, girding them, like the MOVE youngsters, to step to the front lines of the struggle.

Title: Support the SF Bay View

Time Frame: Until the work is done.

Plan of Action:
Donate finances, increase web traffic and provide moral support for the staff of the SF Bay View.

Purpose of Action:
To let the staff of the SF Bay View know that we appreciate all that they have done for the past 16 years and that we support their continued action. To invest in the future of the SF Bay View so that the story of Africans worldwide is told in a truthful and responsible way.

Website: San Francisco Bay View - HOME

What We Should Do Now:
1. Donate money. Visit the SF Bay View Website to make donations via PayPal. The amount is not important. Every cent helps.
To make your donation tax deductible, write a check or money order to HRIN (Hurricane Relief Information Network, the Bay View's... [Read More]

May/Jun ACTION ALERT: Support Ujamma Youth Farming Project

May/June ACTION ALERT

Title: Support Ujamma Youth Farming Project, Support The Third Chimurenga*

Time Frame: 2 Month

Plan of Action:Contribute financial and supply support towards Ujamma Youth Farming Project. Zimbabwe's land redistribution exercise benefited formerly marginalised groups like African women and African youth. However, resources were thinly stretched as the government had to battle with drought relief, an economy under siege from sanctions, lack of support from global lending institutions and a declining perception in the eyes of the world.

Purpose of Action: Support Africa's right to self-determination through feeding its own People.

Established in June 2005, Ujamma Youth Farming Project (UYFP) is an African youth-led farming cooperative that has secured a 100-acre plot in the city of Gweru under the Zimbabwe government's A1 resettlement program and is registered under the Ministry of Youth, Gender and Employment Creation. The leadership core of UYFP is a very socially conscious unit that despises poverty and desires greatness at family, national and continental levels. Our mission is to empower African youth through gainful farming initiatives so that they are able to demonstrate the essential skills necessary to function as lifelong productive citizens in Africa's development. While one of our immediate goals is to offer produce to wholesalers and retail outlets in and around midland provinces in Zimbabwe, a longer term goal is to establish a training program such that youth of African descent from outside of Zimbabwe and even outside Africa will also visit, meet, train/work, and bond with their youth counterparts on the farm.

Our mission is to empower Afrikan youth through gainful farming initiatives, so that they are able to demonstrate the essential skills necessary to function as lifelong productive citizens, through Zimbabwe's agrarian reforms, and ultimately in Afrika's development.

In the city of Gweru in the Midlands province of Zimbabwe, a farming cooperative was formed and registered under the Ministry of Youth , which drew its leadership from former student leaders. Most of its leaders were leaders of student representative councils at institutions of higher learning. It is from their days in student unionism where we can trace their roots in pan-africanism.
