Genocide of Native Black People in Papua.

Firstly, as a new member I would like to send my Respect to Assata Shakur, I have followed your story for quite some time now and have so much admiration towards the person you are and all you stand for and you have my full support. I know this forum may not be my place to be in, but I know this place is filled with passionate men and woman who seek justice for black people as a whole and I feel the story of whats going on in Papua is one needed to be exposed as much as possible through-out the black community. I know this is alot of reading, but I beg you to take a minute out of your day and read over this.

I began my life in a very little known country by the name of Papua(formally Irian Jaya). My mother was a volunteer nurse out there for 14 years of her life and fell in love not only with the people but the beautiful country itself. Papua has always been a very simple and spiritual place, free of western problems and greed. A place where the people still live, dress and speak the exact same way as their ancestors did thousands of years before them. A place that until recently has been virtually untouched by the outside world. I remember being the little white kid, the only white kid, in the village of countless dark and beautiful fuzzy haired people where the woman wore intricately woven grass skirts and the men displayed shiny white bones pierced through their ears, noses and mouths. These people would give you anything they could to help you out when you're in need and welcomed us with open arms. I was one of them, I was treated as one of their own. I had 100`s of Papuan aunties and uncles looking after me while my mum was at her clinic or off trekking through the jungle and crossing over old thin two rope style bridges that make Indian Jones style movies look like mere child's play, as she made her way to help out in close by villages. When I say close by, what I mean to say is a two to three day walk as theirs no where for you to drive a car or land a plane when your right up in the highlands of a dense jungle, so your feet are all you've got.



Geographically speaking Papua is the western part of the island of New Guinea, often confused with the Independent country Papua New Guinea (PNG). Although the population of Papua only constitutes about 0.01% of the world's population, it contains an amazing 15% of the world's known languages, though most of the people have now been forced to learn Indonesian. Before World War 2 Irian Jaya was part of the Dutch East Indies, although it remained virtually untouched. After the war the Dutch East Indies became a part of Indonesia (1949). However the Dutch held on in Papua, arguing that as Papua is inhabited by Melanesians, it should be independent. The Indonesians did not agree and wanted Papua for themselves but the Dutch defied them and ceded Independence to the Papuans and on the first of December 1961 they hoisted the new Papuan Morning Star Flag. Indonesia retaliated on the night of December 1961 attacking Papua with paratroopers and conquering the country for themselves. By 1969 the United Nations called Indonesia out on their abuse of human rights concerning mass murder, rape and other atrocities towards the Indigenous people of Papua and were forced to allow the Papuans to vote on their freedom. The government of Indonesia soon rigged an election and hand picked 1025 natives to vote. Most of the voters were illiterate and couldn't even read who or what they were voting for, while the people who could read were intimidated into voting the way the Indonesians wanted them to. The UN called this "the act of free choice" the Papuans called this "the act of no choice".


As we sit in our lounge rooms being fed all this information about how evil Iraq's regime is and how Sadam murdered thousands of innocent people as an excuse for the Americans to run into Iraq and over throne their government for their own secret plans of taking over their oil rigs and profiting out of the "war on terrorism". What about the poor people of Papua who have nothing to offer the "Guardian Nations of the World" in exchange for their help? Papua has become a Modern day South America where the Indonesians are doing the exact same thing to our People as the Spaniards did to the Incas. The people of Papua cries for help and continue to be ignored by the world.

I do not use these words lightly when I state, that the Indonesian Militants, closely working with the Laskar Jihad are committing mass genocide upon the Papuan people. Since the Indonesians have cruelly come into the country the official numbers of deaths caused directly to Indonesian occupation is around the 100,000 mark while the unofficial death toll is around the staggering 800,000 mark. The militants do not care if you are man woman or child, they will kill you at will. How can we fight machine guns, helicopters and bombs when all we have are primitive spears and bows? Not only does the military and the Islamic Jihadists murder us directly, but they murder us mentally too by raping our woman and altering our once pure genetics, raping us of our native languages,dress and cultures and ultimately treating the people like less than animals! In a country that is still, though not for long predominantly black, their is no such thing as black rights in action what so ever.


Since April 2003, Indonesian troops have carried out raids on highland villages resulting in hundreds of people being displaced and countless rapes, assaults, torture and executions. Health clinics, churches, schools, gardens and villages have been burned to the ground as part of state-sanctioned terrorism. This is a strategic operation designed to annihilate the vast majority of Papuans, who refuse to assimilate with their Indonesian captors. It is alleged that special autonomy funds to the value of 2.5 billion rupiah (around US$260,000), meant for humanitarian purposes, have been diverted to the Indonesian military (TNI) and are being used for military operations and atrocities against indigenous Papuans. Not only have the Indonesians introduced Aids into Papua by raping the woman, but but as the Indonesians are of Islamic religion they do not eat pork, so they inject deadly diseases into the wild pigs that the natives hunt for food.

As stated before the country is still predominantly black native Papuans, but on average 5000 Indonesians migrate to Papua per week via boat. Claims have been made that the military is, in fact, sponsoring the passage of thousands of young Javanese men to Papua by ship. These young men are given further support to set themselves up in one of Papua's urban centers. Papua has now been split into three provinces, two of these provinces are already majority Indonesian Muslim, so even if the Indonesian Muslims are not as yet a majority in Papua as a whole, they are the majority in a majority of the provinces. Jihad "terrorist" training camps are also run openly during the day and are linked directly to al-Qaeda. So not only is this a threat to the Papuan people, but it is a threat to the world and the fight against terror.

I write this article not as a hate article towards Muslim people, as I believe Muslims in general are a loving people who are constantly given a bad name and are completely misunderstood due to the actions of extremists who blatantly misuse and twist the words of the Koran for their own evil doing and selfish agendas just like they are doing in Papua right now. I just hope the truth of what is going on over there is soon exposed to the entire world. I hope and pray that somthing will be done soon before the people of Papua are no more and its too late.

Sorry Comrade please dont assume, many of us are well aware of the struggles of our People not only in Papua or so called Australia but where ever our People are.Your post must of gotten, buried in the "Open forum" which is a dumping ground of sorts I moved it here, welcome and please continue to share our People's plight in Papau..

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post, I'm sorry to all the people who really are true in their beliefs in supporting people in struggle, especially those in the 3rd world... but when seeing something like 57 peoples eyes had graced this article and not one had taken the time to say a word on the people of Papuas troubles it pissed me off. How can ya`ll help? well one way ya`ll can help which wont cost you a cent is educating people, the genocide that is currently taking place in my home country is one that the most of the general public are completely ignorant of. Maybe if the topic is pushed into the public eye then some politician, some day (wishful thinking I know) might be forced to help the people liberate themselves from a ruthless opressor, even if only to save the politicians asses of countrys like America and Australia who claim to be the worlds baby sitters... Also their are small guerilla organisations running in the jungles of papua who are desperately under funded and in need of financial and weaponry support. At the moment I'm doing my best to try and educate people on whats going on over there because, at this point in time, its the only thing Im able to do to support the communities and people I love so much. Hopefully one day I can do more.

i've been monitoring the struggles of our brothers in west papua for a long time. you have the bastard indonesian government that's basically committing genocide on our people and there's nothing about it on the news. it really hurts me to read about this, for the people of west papua seems like really great people. i remembered washing on t he national geographic channel awhile back a show on new guinea/west papua where they were showing footage of this tribe that was discovered living in the jungle seeing whites for the first time. The natives were petrified, but once the got to touch and be around the europeons the natives were all friendly and so trusting. immediately , the whites started giving them food and vaccinations, you should have seen the trust on our peoples faces. at that moment i knew that they were about to get introduce to hell. this is really sad.

The paper trail leads directly back to them, they directly support the slaughter of the native papuans, they use them as slaves in their mines and they rape the country of all its natural resources and profit off of it. What sickens me the most is the western media give incredably little, to no acknowledgment
t to the issues that be... but when a hand full of Australians (who enter Indonesia at their own choice knowing of the potential danger) die at the hands of Indonesians theirs international outcry! Westerners are more outraged at the thought of a hand full of western people being murdered than 800,000 3rd world people. Revolution is what the people need, or more so the means to support a revolution.

babayaw I`m not even going to waste my energy responding to your post with argument because only a fool argues with a fool. I personally support and sympathise with all non-racist black movements because I was braught up in a 3rd world country that I consider to be my home. I fight for my people not because of color of skin, but because of the sense of family I have with them which is a far greater bond than color of skin. Whether they were white, black, yellow or purple I would fight for them as hard as I possibley could because I come from the same place as them and I wish them all the same freedome I was able to gain when I left my country to try and find a life where I didnt have to fear death at the wake of every day. I dont understand where you got the impression that Im wanting people to "jump when I say to" if you had read what I had written with any kind of rational thought train you would relise that is completely wrong. the reason I posted this article here (one of the MANY places on the net I have shared my story and the story of my loved ones) is because I have a respect for what the Panthers and many groups just like them do to help fellow people of color, and even though I am not a person of color, the people I fight for are, and this is one of the few places I thought people might actually understand and sympathise with the situation I am fighting against.
