| website - african americans and the great outdoors
African Americans and the Great Outdoors Pickup & GO! is a breath of fresh air, bringing the Great Outdoors to African Americans and urban communities. Since 1995, Pickup & GO! has set a new standard for environmental publications by focusing on people of color enjoying and protecting our National Parks and other publicly owned lands. Whether they're hiking, biking, kayaking, mountain climbing or just enjoying the scenery in such spectacular places as the Grand Canyon, Pickup & GO! shows communities where to go for low-cost, healthful and inspiring recreation. While the National Parks (390 across the country) are taxpayer-funded and belong to all Americans, some conservationists suggest that our efforts to make African Americans more aware and involved with the parks is "ahead of its time." If leaders of the largely white environmental movement think this way, that implies that we're not ready to be full Americans who would embrace our environmental rights and responsibilities. Pickup & GO! has been honored by former Vice President Al Gore with an "Environmental Hero" Award, as well as by the National Parks Conservation Association, as advocates for the parks. "This is what I want to read when ID+$"om in the doctorD+$"os office or any place I need to be soothed," says one of our subscribers. "My excitement is just building out here in the Badlands," writes another. "Thank you for turning me on to the parks.D+$〓 We hope you will be intrigued by this wholly unusual publication and subscribe ($25 for 12 issues) at www.earthwiseproductionsinc.com ############################################# this is e-drum, a listserv providing information of interests to black writers and diverse supporters worldwide. e-drum is moderated by kalamu ya salaam (kalamu@aol.com). ---------------------------------- to subscribe to e-drum send a blank email to: e-drum-subscribe@topica.com --------------------------------------------- to get off the e-drum listserv send a blank email to: e-drum-unsubscribe@topica.com ---------------------------------------------- to read past messages or search the archives, go to: http://www.topica.com/lists/e-drum
