Position: Assistant Professor, English Institution: Kent State University <http://www.kent.edu> Location: Ohio Date posted: 1/30/2006 English Department P.O. Box 5190, Kent, OH 44242 http://www.kent.edu Assistant Professor, African American Literature and Culture, 20th Century. This position will be a joint appointment in the Departments of English and Pan African Studies. We seek candidates whose teaching and research interests are interdisciplinary and/or comparative. Area of specialization open but might include: African American Womens literature, Transnational or Trans-Atlantic approaches to African/African American literature or culture, literature of the African Diaspora, gender studies, film studies, New Black Renaissance, African American literary theory and criticism. Faculty normally teach five courses per year, with competitive salary and benefits and opportunities for full semester and summer research appointments and pre-tenure workload releases. Teaching will include undergraduate literature courses, as well as senior-level and graduate courses in the candidates research area. A Ph.D. in English or related field is required by time of appointment in August 2006. Relevant teaching experience required. Publications preferred.
