Where did you put your money in today?

Where did you put your money in today?

Greetings Warriors.

Last Sunday on voice chat we discussed about Modes of Resistance for this year 2008.

One of the areas we touched was economics. Many poeple talkin or even doing revolutionary work in their communities, also many warriors who have succeded in working for themselves and not yt, some are still failing to direct their hard earned money to the right direction aka inside the community.
We sometimes see ourselves forced to purchase from big companies: our food, our clothes, our furniture, our books. And what is even harder to avoid, paying the rent, which is usually where more than half of our salary goes.

So what i wanted to do here is just track our little everyday movements of money and share a lil bit, for those that dont find it too invasive (i know it can be) , where is our money going.

As for me I dont buy things daily, but somtimes sweets. And i have not even left home yet, but i will share at the end of the day, for i have to go to the market. Maybe this thread will help me to be more carefull and i may even go buy my groceries at this organic spot (i think it has to be mad expensive but i have not even looked it up yet)

Peace

I always put my money in checking and savings accounts. But when I go shopping for books...I try to support our businesses.

I carry very little cash most of my cash is in plastic, When I shop I shop in my community(grocery and other lil stores)and I support the mom and pop stores thats left, its Unfortunate that for furniture items and things of that sort I have to leave the neighborhood, I don't buy things daily neither, I believe in stocking up shopping in abundance...Mainly food and toiletries

Thats very reasonable...most people are stupid to carry large amounts of cash and all of their plastic with them.

I run all of my errands on the weekends, unless I am in dire need of something.

Today I am going to spend about 15.00 in the local laundromat. I have a personal washer and dryer, but a few years ago, stopped using it and started utilizing the laundromat instead.

I normally carry cash. I am one of the people that holds up the line, because I won't carry my credit/debit card. If I do use my card, it's always as credit. Debit will run you dry slowly.

I usually carry cash but as i dont spend much money at the same time the most i can carry its 50, and thats if im really planning on spending it. when i dont i dont usually carry more than 5 or 10.

Today i went to the supermarket. I was planning to go to the gorcery store so i didnt buy any fresh food on the supermarket, although i finally didnt go to the grocery store.
I bought some necessary food products and toilet paper thats all. but i know this supermarket is owned by some big company so it aint like i put my money in a good place...

As sister EK mentioned, I enjoy the sisterly company.

About two years ago, I became very lonely. I lived in GA, at the time, 918 miles away from Philadelphia and my family.

When I was pregnant, my dryer went out on me, and my husband could not get around to fixing it right away, so I took to hanging my clothes on a line outside. This made me feel something inside, because it took me outside of my house at least three times a week. I felt nice.

By the time my husband decided to fix it, I asked him to leave it alone. I wasn't going to use it for a while. (Mind you, he thought it was a pregnancy phase.) We have three children together, so he's use to the unusual demands.

Well, my washer started malfunctioning, so one day I went to the laundromat.
I was in there for about three and a half hours, and I felt super. I mean, it was during the daytime, so it was full of women of all ages, talking, laughing, singing, washing and drying. We were all doing the same thing. I never felt so alive...seriously. As a matter of fact, I went home and share the experience with my journal.

Needless, to say after I gave birth to my son, I remained washing our laundry at the local laundromat. I've since moved to another state, and as soon as I settled in (about three weeks) I went in search of a place to wash my family's laundry.

It gets me out the house, around other women, and it makes me feel something that kinda hard to describe inside. I just truly enjoy it. BTW, I have not since used our washer and dryer. Not once. I refuse to stand in my laundry room, washing and drying our clothes alone.

Hope, I didn't ramble.

Ive always had 'splurging' issues with me and my money. Ive only recently become a lil better with managing and budgeting my money. I tend to do most of my errands and shopping on the weekends myself, but Im always stopping and looking for discounts, lol. For the most part, I spend about 80%of my money with my Brothas and Sistahs in my community. But I still have my yt spots i.e. Meijers and Target (luv um

I havent spent any money today yet, but a $1.50 for the bus..
Damn I bought a Mocha from Mcdonalds (non black establisment, lol)

I barter trade goods for goods. I traded six ears of corn for two carrots, two okras and two tomatoes. I am going to make some soup for lunch. I am going to trade one of my donkeys for another horse. With gas prices high as they are horses come in handy these days.

Lol, oh ok, I can understand that. I was just asking cause, I had a washer and dryer growing up so when I went to college it was on and popn with the laudromat. When me and homies bought a house in our 2nd year of school, we would troop blocks with our dollar store laundry bags (bout 2 a piece) soap and all to get to the local laundrymat, lol. And of course we would wait until we only had 1 or no pair of clean drawls. Sistah doing that for years, I didnt want to see another laudry mat. One night we was in there, and my roomate must have went to get some change and when she got back to the table someone had took her coat, lol talk about heated. Ive had my fair share of the laundry mat, lol.

I wa determined to get me a washer and dryer come hell or high water. I was living by myself when I had my first daughter in DC, and I bought a used washer from some dude in the neighborhood, no dryer though. I was so pressed, I had to drag it off my connecting back porch up into my kitchen and hook a hose up to the faucet so i could use it, Id be wore out but our clothes would be washed.

Now, I got a washer and dryer, and it surely a bigger chore now going to the laundrymat then before. I had to go about two months ago, spent sixty dollars and was there bout 3 hours, it was cool. I dont get the 'sisterly' conversations in my laundrymats I take a blunt and a book and chill out. But I do enjoy using a bunch of washers at one time *WINK*

As far as the sisterly conversation, I lived in Columbus Ga, and it's a small little city, which houses Fort Benning army, so they are still a sensitive group of women, who enjoys baking, laughing and singing. Now don't get me wrong, the younger crowd are of a different breed. They would walk in, wash and dry their clothes, all without whispering a hello. Hey, what can I do? But, the older women though, thirty five and up, were awesome. I learned a lot of things.

Since, I moved to AZ, the laundromat that I go to, is one that is in a Mexican neighborhood, and most of the patrons are Mexicans, but the thrill is not gone.

As far as having things stolen, just last month, someone got away with my brown bathroom rug, but the way I look at thieves are "they must have needed it much more than I did."

But, 60 bones? I spend fifteen dollars every three weeks unless I am washing pillows, rugs, bed spreads, quilts and sneakers, then I spend a little over 23.00, and that's including drying those items. Except my sneakers, which I allow to air dry.
