(I draw your attention to this phrase used by the AU Commission stating that the AU is committed to the goals of Dr. and Madame Nkrumah, which they define as a "united and developed Africa, free from all forms of vestiges and neo-colonialism." Let us, in the memory of the Nkrumahs and all our glorious ancestors, hold the AU to this commitment to oppose neo-colonialism. Roy)

Condolences on the Passing Away of Madam Fathiya Nkrumah, Widow of late Kwame Nkrumah
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on behalf of the Commission conveys his heartfelt condolences to the family, governments and people of Ghana and Egypt on the demise of Madam Fathiya Nkrumah, widow of our great nationalist, Kwame Nkrumah, on Thursday May 31, 2007.
The death of Madam Nkrumah at this momentous time in our history as a people, when the continent is charting an agenda towards a union government *a campaign championed by Nkrumah in the OAU days, brings to mind the nationalist struggle of Africa's shining star, which Madam Fathiya was part of as his spouse. We salute her courage and support to Kwame Nkrumah!
Our aspiration, therefore, is to keep the flame burning and to renew our commitment towards achieving the overriding objective of Nkrumah's nationalism that of a truly united and developed Africa, free from all forms of vestiges and neo-colonialism.
We pray the Almighty grant the family, governments and people of Ghana and Egypt the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, at this time that Ghana is celebrating its 50th Independence Anniversary. We take solace in the fact that Madam Nkrumah left a legacy, a footprint for generations yet unborn to emulate.
May the soul of Madam Fathiya Nkrumah find eternal rest!
