| Small possibility of functional unity in Azania-SOuth Africa
I draw your attention to this interesting excerpt from a recent ILO article entitled "MPs oppose DA's apartheid Bill proposal" .. the excerpt includes a clear denunciation of the prevailing legal and moral climate dominating occupied Azania, expressed particularly by MP Motosoku Pheko and AZAPO MP Pandelani Nefolovhodwe as well as a denuniciation by ANC's Vytjie Mentor: Expressing her disapproval chairman of the Select Committee on Private Members Legislative Proposals and Special Petitions, Vytjie Mentor, (ANC) said: "It is discriminatory. This is the ideology of DA superiority of the white race." Said PAC MP Motsoko Pheko: "We will support this gentleman if he (also) includes former freedom fighters." "It did not make sense that the DA's proposed Bill would exclude former freedom fighters as it was a known fact that apartheid was declared a crime against humanity by the United Nations," he said. Slamming the official opposition's move Azapo MP Pandelani Nefolovhodwe described it as "nonsense". He shared Pheko's view that apartheid was condemned by the world body and many countries. : He said the DA failed to distinguish between acts of sabotage and treason committed under apartheid and similar acts that can be committed against a democratic state. " (The entire article has been inserted below if you are interested. The opposition to the proposed Bill by the ANC, PAC and Azapo is based on the fact that it focuses only on people convicted under repelled apartheid laws, like the Immorality Act, and excludes former political prisoners, some of whom have borne the humiliation of being barred from entering certain foreign countries. DA spokesperson on Correctional Services James Selfe told a media briefing last week that they were prompted to propose the Bill for apartheid-era criminal records to be expunged after being approached by people who had been refused entry overseas or denied jobs. Selfe cited a case of a man recently denied a visa to enter the US because of a 1975 conviction. The man, explained Selfe, had been found guilty under the Immorality Act for having a sexual relationship with a woman of another race. The second case related to another man who was turned down for a job because he had been convicted of breaking curfew regulations in the former Transkei. He said there were a number of similar cases. "We wish to expunge the records of those people who were convicted of offences that would not be offences in an open and democratic society based on human dignity, equality and freedom," he said. The DA decided not to include former freedom fighters who were convicted for fighting against apartheid because they fell into a separate category. Selfe said the charges that ex-combatants had been incarcerated for were still criminal offences today. Those charges included sabotage, treason and murder. Five years ago the US government refused to grant businessman Tokyo Sexwale a visa to enter that country because he had served a prison term on Robben Island for his political activities. Expressing her disapproval chairman of the Select Committee on Private Members Legislative Proposals and Special Petitions, Vytjie Mentor, (ANC) said: "It is discriminatory. He said the DA failed to distinguish between acts of sabotage and treason committed under apartheid and similar acts that can be committed against a democratic state.
