PROTECTING SEEDS
OF GENIUS

The first seven years of the child’s life, the immediate providers of his or her physical and mental welfare will surly plant lifetime seeds within the fertile garden of the child’s mind. Although many African-American parents naturally recognize that a child’s mind requires constant positive nurturing, many parents still allow confusing television images, sex music, and violent DVD video games to captivate the child’s attention for many hours. Meanwhile, we should not entirely fault the child’s parents for allowing “damaging impression” to enter the child’s fertile mind. We must nevertheless, take a closer look at Americas’ long-established social beliefs. Indeed, America’s materialistic influence tends to entertain and increase the parents’ ignorance daily.

Looking at the type of money traditions America has based her social beliefs on, the wise words of Jesus Christ clearly describe the false images America has religiously embraced: “The Love of money is the root of all evil.” Many parents have likewise, accepted America’s definition of “successful living.” In turn, the child slowly starts to believe in the American dream (the love of money) as his or her social pursuit and ultimate purpose in life. Fortunately, our Divine wise creator has blessed our little children with inner light. Spiritual light helps them to dispel incoming negative images opposing the development of their healthy minds.

The movers and shakers of this world that profit from the sales of false images, recognize the child’s spiritual resistance against destructive advertisement. For these reasons, many large corporations are collectively investing billons of dollars yearly on family research programs. Their aim is to develop profitable messages defining the American dream, as well as promote anti-family values. Why? Most dysfunctional families tend to seek “happiness” through material possessions. Thus, rewarding corporate America billions of dollars in profit. Likewise, the divorce rate continues to rise, teenage pregnancy remains an epidemic, and masses of Americans continue to buy into Hollywood violence, premarital sex, drugs and wild music. Along with baseball, apple pie, hot dogs, and TV.
We ask, “how many more years do you think that America’s (false image) investments will continue to oppose the Divine light in our gifted little children?

How many 10, 20 or 30, 2036? When will Black America finally awaken from the so-called American dream? However, please do not misunderstand the capitalistic nature of America’s competitive heart. Of course, it would be very silly to adopt a negative attitude towards the American economy. No, that would be unwise, unproductive and very juvenile.

Nevertheless, it is our responsibility to form a better value system regarding our children’s mental welfare. We must become more aware of the subtle environmental forces competing for our children’s future dollars. We must also start investing as much time energy and money cultivating our children’s minds, much as we spend in pursuit of the so-called American dream, gambling to hit the lottery, or investing in scratch off tickets.

Similarly, for many reasons, Americans have campaigned and rallied for just about everything under the sun. Our government has likewise succumbed too many of our constitutional demands. The irony of these efforts, however, is that many of the socio-political gains some American’s have sacrificed much to achieve, such as gay rights pornography, legal and prostitution…. Etc. Presently serve as a springboard into deeper immorality, and an ever-expanding generation gap.

In short, at the present rate that America is laboring to mislead her young potential geniuses, it is safe to reason from her ongoing social practices, that for every step forward, America is willing to step back two or three times depending upon her material appetite for profits. Consequently, Americans’ material taste is developing a new appetite for leading her sheep into the abyss of materialism. She is now filling her mouth with profits gained from obsessed credit card addicts, and future high-tech entertainment junkies.

Clearly then, we must acknowledge that we are mentally, physically, and spiritually inside of a high-tech battle for the mind! Today, we must realize that our concern for our children future is a psychological battle corporate America intends to win, for the sake of pure profit. Now, if we fail to oppose the cold attitude of many corporate beasts, and continue to support the mark of the beast inscribed inside Hollywood’s hidden agendas, America shall surely transform into the symbolic beast ancient prophets have forewarned us about.
Indeed, to stand idle, or vapor locked in the middle of corporate America’s multi-billion dollar “false-image-dream-war,” will be the same as walking into a riot thinking of oneself as non-violent. Truly, you will be forced to fight, receive an unnecessary mental defeat, or perhaps experience a pitiful spiritual death! Therefore, the time has come to take an intelligent stand. We must counterattack the ugly side of corporate America. Why? Because obviously, America is allowing negative images, like her ill-legal drug conspiracies, to continue to psychologically burn our future generations --- purely for the sake of her material gains.

In summery, when we truly look at the total picture of America’s social policy. Two conditions appear under her feet. Under one foot, she has “sacrificed” the lives of men, women and children to establish her present respect, freedom, and international power. Secondly, America has mentally instilled her image in the world community, as the greatest nation ever produced by man.
Accordingly, if you sit back and think about her in relationship to previous great empires, you may also begin to notice that she did not create herself independently from the will of Almighty God’s magnificent plan. No, America has been granted permission to grow and serve a broad purpose in the ultimate plan in Almighty God’s wisdom. She is like unto the authority of a queen in a three-dimensional chess game. Her moves are vast, however, they are equally influenced by the consciousness of her citizens predominate thoughts. She is a collective mind engaged in the shrewd art of human survival.

Thus, her very nature compels her to use the knowledge of past empires, and their methods to maintain her superpower on earth. The problem and solution, moreover, is not so much in the changing of her body or political position in the world. The true task however, is the changing of her mind and nature. Therefore, her money, which representing her king on the world chessboard, must be checkmated in order to set into motion a new massive train of positive thoughts (within the collective consciousness of her people).

How is this undertaking possible? We must first acknowledge and prepare a much greater force greater than giant Corporate America, known as: The mighty spirit of “genius,” developing within the minds of our precious little children. Truly, corporate America checkmate will be the result of our up-and-coming positive young geniuses.

Evidence mounts on dangers of television

The degree of damage done to children by their own parents through ignorance, irreverence and neglect is simply astounding. We need to educate and train ourselves for the sublime responsibility and blessing that being a parent is.

I think often about young people and there�s often much in the news about matters such as ending social promotion in public schools and things of that nature. What is social promotion? It�s a practice of passing a student along to the next grade when they have not met the academic requirements to merit graduation. Of course social promotion is poor practice and it does a disservice to the child who is a victim of it. They become accustomed to moving on, or getting by without truly gaining any manner of capability in any given discipline. But when you take a deeper look at this problem, it gets a lot more muddled than just passing a kid along. A parent has to be involved in a child�s development, plain and simple. But in so many instances, where does a parent find the time, the energy and initiative to participate in their child�s education when more and more people are forced to work absurd hours per week, or take on multiple jobs just to make ends meet? I just recently glimpsed the latest volume of TIME magazine and the cover story is about why more young women are eschewing the workplace to stay at home with their children. My mother was home when I came in from school. She was very involved with the PTA and school related issues. But most times it�s not about school itself. It�s often about the parent indulging their children�s desire to learn at an early age and throughout. I have a friend whose youngest brother was home schooled. I remember his mother was always looking for some creative tool to move her son�s education forward. Educational sing-along records that instructed the child to solve small problems using blocks and such, identifying sounds, telling time and things of that nature. The kid took to the stuff with such glee and enjoyment because he was enjoying himself, sure, he was learning, but it was the manner in which he was doing so. It was interactive, and engaging. It was also important that his mother took such an active part in his development in a hands-on manner. She enjoyed watching him and participating in his growth and learning process, which created an optimal learning atmosphere. My friend and I are still tight as ever, but I watched his little brother grow up from a sprout, and the kid is simply brilliant. I have no question in my mind that his mother�s constant engagement of his mind from an early age is greatly responsible. She was always picking up things from all sorts of bookstores whose business was selling intelligent toys, so to speak. Not intelligent in that they were little robots that would talk to you and quiz you on geography and shit, but intelligent in that they sparked your imagination, inspired you to build and exercised your mind. What ever happened to those kinds of toys? Tinkertoy� was a great toy for a child because it challenged them to make things, to build something if they wanted it; a car, a robot, a plane or a windmill. A bridge or spaceship. See, when I was coming up, there were some toys that served a greater purpose than just being cool, or fun, or expensive or fluffy and cuddly. But as a kid playing with these toys, you didn�t even realize it. You just got the pieces and set about seeing what you could make. I would bet any amount of money that someone involved with the construction of the twin Mars Rovers had Tinkertoys or Lincoln Logs or Lego or something. But nowadays those kinds of toys aren�t readily available. Tinkertoy and Lincoln Logs can likely be found on ebay in some small number, and Lego� is still around, but these types of toys don�t command nearly a fraction of the market that they once did.



It�s also about what we give our children. So many young parents rush out to buy their children the things that they didn�t have as kids, twenty inch televisions and VHS players and such, without even buying their child a bookcase. Kids don�t read today like they did years ago. I wonder if they still do the little book sales in schools like they did when I was in elementary and junior high. As a kid I looked forward to getting that Scholastic Books order form and ordering two or three books. Suddenly reading is corny or it�s boring. Children�s imaginations aren�t being built and it�s sad because the many people that are wealthy or prominent today largely were raised on the simple things that engaged their mind. A kid in front of a computer today is not being challenged in the same manner as a kid with a canister full of parts that dared him to build something of his own. Sure the kid in front of the computer gains a certain efficiency on it, but the kid with the tube full of parts and pieces learns to look at a mess or a jumble and see possibilities. And it is the matter of possibility coupled with natural human curiosity that spurs us on to great things. Quite simply, the minds responsible for the computer did not grow up seated in front of one.



I also wonder about television programming and the part it plays in children�s development. Sesame Street, The Electric Company and other products of the Children�s Television Workshop have produced great atmosphere�s for learning via television. Sesame Street still airs new shows to this day. The Electric Company no longer exists, but when I was coming up, those were the two big shows on PBS. Then there�s the issue of what passes for educational programming on television aimed at children today. I saw an episode of the Steven Spielberg created cartoon show, HISTERIA, which dealt with historical incidences, figures and periods which depicted Hannibal as a strident white male with flaming red hair. There was an episode where they spoofed MTV�s The Real World with historical characters, ranging from Marie Antoinette, to Queen Elizabeth to Ghandi and Abraham Lincoln. Mary Antoinette was snobbish and aristocratic and self centered, much like she has been portrayed throughout history. Queen Elizabeth was pale and flies always buzzed around her, to indicate the state of uncleanness that much of Europe was mired in during that era, yet, for some reason, Ghandi was always running around threatening to punch somebody in the nose. So there were these little nuggets of direct historical inaccuracy blatantly flaunted as educational children�s programming. Not like Woody Woodpecker going on a cartoon game show to declare incorrectly that Napoleon was buried in Grant�s Tomb, this was something different and insidious because it�s being portrayed as historical accuracy made for youthful digestion. Much of Saturday morning cartoon programming has gone from purely entertaining fare to standard educational programming, yet none of which is even of the caliber of the Schoolhouse Rock shorts that aired during commercial breaks in the seventies. Schoolhouse Rock was, in my opinion, one of the greatest educational tools to ever cross a television screen. It was quick, it bored it�s way into your brain and those little songs stayed there, whether they were about grammar and parts of speech, arithmetic, science or even the propaganda-laden tunes from the History Rock section. You heard the songs, U sang along and before U even realized what was going on you had learned something that you could use every day in school. Particularly, I know that those songs helped me tremendously in my memorization of the multiplication tables, and in my command of or grammar and the English language. If only they could come up with great tunes like those that could convey the laws of physics or explain the concept of calculus in three minutes!



I suppose that my entire point is that many things go into the process of educating an individual and the sooner that you start, the better. My point is also that it�s not possible, sensible or even fair to heap all of the blame for educational shortfall on the doorstep of the current public school system. There are many parts that go into the failure of a system, parents are a part of the system and have to take an active part. Government has to step in and prevent businesses and corporations from working people insane and excessive hours to the detriment of the family unit. We need to look at getting our children�s minds involved in more than the latest music videos and video games, and take some of the blame onto our own shoulders. Indeed if it takes a village to raise a child, then when it comes to losing brilliance, in some manner we are all responsible. In the end that�s what it all boils down to. At the end of a day, we all need to look at how we engage youthful minds and induce them to brilliance. The world is watching. What will you do?

We must begin to understand that intelligence, contrary to what racist science has claimed, in NOT innate but developed!! Development of intelligence requires good diet first and foremost and as you have educated us here exercise of the mind.

I have been creating problem-solving scenarios for my Sunz - ways to teach them how to think and problem solve on their own. They're young so it isn't complicated at this point but still requires them to use their minds to come up with solutions and do so in an African-centered manner. As they get older these will become increasingly more complicated.

Parents should appreciate how effective simply reading to their children can be. Stories should be interactive- i.e. make sure you ask your children as you read to explain what is happening and guess what will happen in the story and why. Vocabulary can also be stressed very simply during a reading session. Numerous studies have shown that children exposed to reading in this way become excellent readers themselves with comprehension skills that far outstrip those children not given this experience.

Television and video games are part and parcel of the "imposed ignorance" that ManifestDestiny speaks of. These poisons should be eliminated from your Childs world - the only exception being those carefully planned videos or programs you set up for your children to watch toward a specific goal or lesson. TV and video as a babysitter is among the most destructive influences in a Childs world not to mention the negative values and images being pumped at your child.

Greetings Im The Truth, manifestdestiny & Tehuti-4!

Thank you all for checking out the thread, and welcome to the discussion.

I firmly believe that we can always teach and show our children as well as ourselves that being intelligent is something or a process that we all can excel at, if only we would believe more in ourselves and our people.

Learning things does not always have to be done in a formal setting or in some set place and time. We just have to want to learn and as adults we need to show our children that learning is and can be fun.

So many of our people settle for the " I can't do it syndrome" and this is not to downplay the real effects of colonialism, but we cannot let that stop us in any way. When we look at children nowadays they are so smart, they can memorize so many things word for word especially lyrics to songs, from an early age. Yet some of these same children we wait until age 5 according to waht the law says is mandatory to put them in school.

In the meantime parents who take the initiative to either home school their children or put them in daycare centers where there are educational activities to meet their need find that those children excel early on in their academic studies, simply because they were given a headstart.

Now I know not all parents can afford to pay any more out of pocket expense for early childhood learning, but some of these same parents have their children in all those overpriced designer brand name shoes, and clothes. They could save some of that same money and use for a tutor, to help the child do better in a subject that is difficult for the child to understand or learn.

Taking the time like bro. Tehuti-4 says to teach our children how to problem solve and exercise their minds cannot be over stated. It is such a vital part of our mental development. Encouraging them to keep journals of their daily activities, or things of interest, or just simply encouraging them to write about their feelings or share their thoughts with themselves makes a big difference.

Takin a child to the library or to a museum opens up an interest to learning. Taking the time to read to our children shows the importance of education, from an early age. Encouraging the children to read to us helps them do better as well. Teaching our children about our culture and heritage gives them a sense of pride.

Too much TV and video games are dumbing down our children, and no one seems to understand that if the brain is not exercised or challenged it will never work to its full capacity.

I know we all lead busy lives, but we should never be too busy to educate. We are a brilliant people, and we need to make sure our child know and emulate this as well.
