What are you telling your kids about this holiday thing

What are you telling your kids about this holiday thing

What are telling your children about the about these holi-helladays are you telling them that this fat white cracker named santa will come down the chimney with gifts...Are you letting them have this childhood fantasy, ya know allowing them to be a kid and wait to tell them later, or are you telling them like it is that historically christmas was fabricated and paganistic

You know, sis....
I don't have any children, yet....BUT, I was thinking that I would play it off as if I have no idea what this santa and jesus business is. I could imagine my child having to do these assignments from grade school, and bring home some cotton ball picture of art of Santa...I would just say that she or he is a wonderful artist and, well, put it on the fridge and pull out a canvas and ask her or him to paint whatever they so desire.

I would not promote it. And I would not ban it either. I just would not allow it to become the topic of discussion and determine what she or he is capable of doing.

Not "OHHH look at the Santa you drew!! Oh he is going to bring you great things this CHRISTmas " but more like:
"Oh, sweety. What a wonderful piece of art you have created. You know, I created a picture like this before when I was in grade school. Here, lets put it on the fridge so your pops can see it when he comes home from fighting the system...yes, darling...long live Pan-Africanism."

I always told my children that santa "satan" claus was a devil and to believe in any of it jingle bells, lights, trees, white christmas etc was devil worshiping, I also introduced them to Kwanzaa when they started asking questions.

When I was still married and my daughter was young (5 - 10), my wife and I had two completely different ideas on the subject. She was all into the Christmas and the Santa thing and I was in my militant coming into consciousness stage, so I was anti Christmas period. I knew my home life would be a living hell if I clued my daughter in on truth about Christmas. So I was neutral on the subject with my daughter. When she talked to me about Santa, Rudolf, baby Jesus, etc. I just told her, why don't you ask your mommy? I never allowed a Christmas tree in our house though, they had to go to Grandma's for that.

Now my daughter is 17 and her mother died 2 years ago, so its just the two of us. Knowing she came up with Christmas, if I deny her of it now and try to force my convictions on her, it will make Christmas even more alluring and my views less appealing to her. So every December I remind her that I "don't do Christmas", but she has to decide what's right for her. She exchanges gifts with friends and family, but is not into the religious aspect at all. I think its paying off though. I can see where her just being exposed to an opposing view has led her to question things and not just follow the crowd, not just in relation to Christmas but to life in general.

Holidays based off of solar mythology (Christmas, Halloween, Easter) I'm not against. I would just EXPLAIN that it is a holiday based off of solar mythology. If people want to "celebrate" after the fact, then it's no problem as far as I'm concerned. Christmas...I would give extra explination on, in terms of consumerism though.

Holidays based off of amerikkkan patriotism and genocide (President's Day, The 4th of July, Veterans Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving) I am diametrically opposed to. I HATE those holidays and absolutely refuse to celebrate them and will attack any attempts to celebrate these so-called Holidays.

Holidays based off of emotionalism (Valentines Day, Mothers Day)...they've got me by the nutts.

Holidays that I celebrate out of solidarity are Martin Luther King's Birthday, May Day, Cinco De Mayo, St. Patrick's Day, Chinese New Years, Kwanzaa and Ethiopian Christmas.

Holiday that I celebrate that only the revolutionaries celebrate is African Liberation Day (I say "revolutionaries" and not "revolutionary Africans" because African Liberation Day has even been celebrated in Ireland, China and the former USSR).

If I'm ever blessed with children,I'd tell them about Kwanzaa, and why this holiday and its principles are so important.

Nef...I curse like a sailor, LOL!!! For me to get upset at you for cursing means I have to get mad at myself first. And I aint mad at me

Now...do you want me to explain the holiday? Or do you want me to explain why I show solidarity with the Irish? (Either way, I have to do it later because I'm on my way out the door).
