As an instructor to homeschooled students as well as a tutor to children in the elementary school system, I would definitely encourage people to consider homeschooling their children while being connected to support groups. There is simply no need to keep our children in the public sKKKool system where we KNOW their learning styles and needs will be ignored, neglected and dismissed. I don't get it. By now, it is fairly commonplace to everyone that there is a lot of nonsense in the public education system and that this system is not designed to educate black children, and yet we leave our children in these systems to rot... then talk about them like they are worthless when they don't graduate or underachieve. When you are homeschooling your children, you are the boss. Their learning style becomes the most important factor in determining the curriculum and the teaching tactics. It makes no sense that Geometry students are going through an entire year of geometry class and still saying, "what can I do with this stuff?" How absurd! It is a sign that they are not being taught according to their learning and lifestyle. Geometry students should be able to build their own homes and furniture with ease. Algebra students should be able to figure out unknown quantities of orders for a resturaunt or grocery stores, so that they'll never be in stock. Calculus students should be able to tell which motor oils and which gasoline brands produce better car performance on the road. People really ought to start homeschooling their kids and stop yappin about the plight of black youth. Take control of their education! (Ok... I'm done) Balogun

| u ain't done; u still dropping knowledge. u've reminded me of a TV special seen a few years back. A geometry teacher would take his students riding public transportation and explain how it and physics (I think) are all up in city layouts, bldgs, roads and hwys. He didn't leave'em wondering about usage. For those who still have children in public or private schools, I've always told ours to ask teachers: "How does this apply to me? and How can I use this in my life?" Another tidbit, one of our granddaughters (in public elementary skkkool) was complementing her, while saying she was arrogant. I went off, on hearing it. Told her to ask teacher what he meant and that granddaddy didn't like his baby characterized as arrogant. He apologize and told her he didn't mean it in negative sense. I hope she peeps, what I'm always saying to them: make sure u understand what a teacher is writing or saying. OH! one more: all of ours are taught to not be concerned with "grades." Concentrate in understanding whatever is taught and how it relates. Grades will follow. If grades don't follow, no problema. They'll know how to use it.

| home schooling is a must
hello, great topic. i just think it's critical for black parents to home-school. this might mean prospective parents getting the ol' ducks in a row prior to having kids, so that home-schooling remains an affordable option (i.e. securing housing, appropriate employment (such as home-based) or building savings, etc.). i've seen too many black children just destroyed in public schools. i actually quit a MAT program because i just could not see going in to public schools and promoting that nonsense they call an education system with a smile. i know of one family (relatives actually) who didn't even have much of a home-schooling program, but kept their daughter at home because they didn't like what was going on in public schools. Relative made sure her daughter could read, write, and such, she put her in music lessons and got her involved with other black children at church. the girl is 20 years old and well adjusted, has friends, is employed and helping take care of her aging parents with no issues. my point is, that this is an emergency situation. i could go on and on, but the bottom line is, parents who care, need to get their kids out of these racist public schools and either go private (as in non-government funded) or homeschool. peace -sistah maasai mara
