Peace. I am a student at Virginia Tech, soon to graduate next month. I will be moving back to Richmond and implementing programs for consciousness and Afrikan pride to the youth. Eventually I wish to get my PHd in Afrikan Studies at Temple University and with the help of my brothers and sisters, found a school with an Afrocentric-centered curriculum. Bless. |

Hey everyone, I saw this site, and as an activist I couldn't pass the opportunity to join in on the discussion. Many people may not find my views to be exact to theirs. I hail from NY, and as a brother in NYC i've lived through many incidents, and am an active participant in the Hip-Hop and poetry scenes. Inspired by a fallen soul brother, Asif, a Muslim friend (I'm Jewish, but against the Israeli Neo-Con agenda.) He was killed in an auto accident by a white truck driver who witnesses say was going over twice the limit, which is 30mph on Queens BLVD in Jamaica. He had over 2000 people visit the Mosque, and hundreds more attended memorial celebrations, open mics, poetry sessions @ the Afrikan Poetry Theatre in Jamaica Queens NY. He was a well loved, not liked, LOVED, person. Period. We share the same birth hour, born within minutes, him in Bangladesh and I here in NY. I don't let myself dwell on justice, for his justice was served in his music, art, poetry and our memories. His videos can be seen at youtube.com/asifalicious, and A documentary was made about him by a Film Student and can be seen @ youtube.com/danana, 3rd Page under the title "Thru the Rhyme." He was the best soul on earth, and no justice was served, and he lived in oppression from Police, although committed no crime, other than smoking herb, and that's not really a crime. I find that I wasn't very passionate about my beliefs before 2000. After that time wars occured, our brothers and sisters were abandoned and left for dead in New Orleans and Mississippi. All the areas completely destroyed are some one the highest per capita Afrikan heritage in the nation. Venezuelan and Canadian Mounted Police (98% WHITE!!!) aid was there 3 days before FEMA even called anyone about it. I don't care if you hate every white person, Canada's people control their government, they're good people, and they helped out our brothers and sisters in the wrath of Katrina, while many did nothing. That issue along with international policies, general racism of any kind, we need to realize the only difference is our melatonin levels. Now the evidence is there that racism exists on a large scale in our justice system, which is designed to misinform, incarcerate and trap black men within the system and never let them out. That is our biggest difficulty, justice. Science will tell you melatonin levels have nothing to do with crime, just skin tone and appearance. BET only perpetuates the terrible stereotypes people like Bill O' Reilly use to move forward his racist agenda. BET tells our forsaken brothers and sister how to act in a way that stigmatizes the entire "Ghetto" persona. It puts our brothers at constant attention of law enforcement, a general disrespect from society by acting ridiculous. Like it or not, people are bounded or separated by communication. If BET, MTV, Ebony Magazine, Source Magazine, and other "black" media outlets, keeps us down by demanding we act a certain way, buy certain things and make them richer while we get poorer and prison. The rich white men at Viacom love to use the attraction of Pimpin' Cars, Ballin' Lifestle, objectification of our women, the bearers of our children to intestate and make sure that our young black and even dumb ass white boys to act a certain way, and are uneducated. The most important though is not direct and specifics lessons that need to be taught. Instead rather the assurance that all our people know how to think for themselves and even more importantly to think critically. To constantly inquire, turn our government transparent, and question our "leaders" and supposed representatives. These issues bother me the most because they are campaigns of misinformation that runs into comedies and cartoons to serious respected "News" programs(Real journalism was killed by the white neo-con leadership and corporate takeovers of media outlets), to editorial and pundit shows like Crossfire and the much loved O'Reilly Fucker, err I mean Factor. These are what reach every man. I am a humanist, but as a man of Afrikan decent, I hold responsibilities for my people. Being active in enlightenment, and helping people to think critically. Even if it means just pointing out in advertisements how they just want to make money, and to make them ask themselves. Ask whatever, but questions with true and honest answers encourage real enlightenment of our world. So a big "What's Up homies" cause after that tirade I'm sure some agency will make a profile, if there isn't one already. I'd like to seem, inconspicuous and ignorant. That's how you slip through the cracks :-) Sad thing is, it really isn't that radical in my eyes, maybe i'm the idiot and everyone else is just really smart. Hey I did say it was important to question everything. And alyce_shakur, I lived in that town where VT is for a year as a kid. Blacksburg's better than most southern cities, but there sure isn't a lot of pepper there, Well, outside the campus at least. It was your typical white suburban neighborhood. With a school system that loved to oppress the critical thinkers like myself. |
