I am a sista in the South and I am glad that we have sites to help us attune to self and knowing thyself.I am a Georgia Peach and I have a hard time finding sista and brotha that really understand the concept to the good ol boys..... Some act as they do not understand that this will always be about war. We as black descent have ancestors that work hard to pave the way for us yet some do not appreciate it! Me I love my ancestors for paving way yet how do we refocus on what is at hand if the disguise paleman acts as they love us as a race and our sistas and brothas stay blindfolded and know what thet see in the visual eye?

Hello Family

My name is Shanna. I'm a resident of the DC Metropolitan area by way of the Tri-State. It's funny how things have a way of touching your heart, placing a blessing on your spirit, and changing your life, you know?

I reconnected with my biological family THIS YEAR, after not knowing them for almost 20 years. I was taken away when I was 4 years old, and just this year I was reunited with extended family & siblings and met my younger sister for the first time.

Even though my personal struggles are heavy, the good had a strange way of out-weighing the bad.. Four(4) years ago I became more conscious of myself. I cut my hair off and went natural. But as backward as it was, I still wore straight hair weaves and wigs. Someone told me I was "battling with myself". They were right. And it wasn't until I cut my hair off for the third(3rd) time that I realized what I was doing.

A friend of mine introduced my to this site. I love him. I thank him. I saw his transformation over the past year. He's official and I take his motivation. But we ALL know there's enemies in the struggle, throwing ignorant comments my way like, "You aint AFRIKAN! You don't know what the he** AFRIKA is! You wasn't raised in no jungle!" or "Power to the people, Shanna. What? You 'bout to start shootin' up [stuff] like a militant muslim now?"

Disrespectful ain't the word, but I take the blessing with the backstabbing. Such is life. So, I thank YOU, my family, for being a support. I look forward to growing and enforcing. UHURU SASA FAMILY!

Within this quote below there is an inner fraze that stands out very strongly to me on my path in this life. Which is:
"I move forward when those that fear stay behind and afraid"

When I read these powerful words , it made me realize that for a while now I have been I have been the one that is in a tug of war position, stradeling the middle. As a child I realized that my warior nature was more in the mother mind. It is a mental and internal war that I stand up to fight and moving forward when those that fear stay behind and afraid is transcending any form of oppression to me. I thank you so much for these words. I often speak them and teach my children, however not listening to your own words is a result of havng fallen asleep. And honestly I did.

Though the complete essence of the quote is what it is (real) It was that portion that has inspired my womb.
