I'm just coming home from a Job interview with Comcast. I tried my best to look presentable(wore a suit and tie,nice shapeup etc). I don't have the best resume/work history but I plead my case,and spoke from the heart letting them know that I really needed this job to help pay for college. The end result was the typical "Thanks for coming down we'll call you when a positon becomes available" bullsh1t that I heard a million times.I'm seriously thinking about giving up and doing something "else", But then i'd have to worry about jail,snitches and all that other crap, but at the same time niggas is not tryna bust they ass 7 days a week for 5.15 a hour!! I really don't know what I'm gonna do, I'm just glad I don't have any seeds because then i'd be in an even deeper hole

your artwork is a blessing Brother, keep doing ya thing... as for the other issues going on with you I know they got they foot on yo neck but PLEASE don't give them the satisfaction of becoming another statistic in they system, keep grindin ,come up with a 5 year plan on how you'll pay for college and what you have to save and then just do it , I don't know much about philly but since you do have a background in art creation maybe you could check out major printing companies , creative design, or graphic arts companies in your area ?

one more thing ........ since you good with the artwork have you ever thought of putting your work on t shirts? gather up a few hundred to start off with , get somebody to screenprint em out in bulk(online or offline), flip them for 15-20 dollas I'm pretty sure ya'll got cultural events in philly , sell them there ,sell em out ya trunk if you got to, and just keep grinding it out that way

Ppresent your plan to resourceful people in your community outlining your goal, projections of income, and start up cost. Throw fund-raisers to get up the resources to push forth your dream.

You should sell your artwork man. Don't work for those poisonous companies because they only pay minimum wage. Just like the other warriors said, the best thing to do is sell your art or either look into starting up a small business.

oh my.. i had missed this thread but Eric, if you still over them...damn! I cant believe you think there's no other job for you when you are blessed with such artistic talent. Arent you doin somethin with it? I mean something profitable? I always say we must meditate and find our own gift and use it to uplift ourselves and our community, and if posible, build a life around it, but you dont even have to meditate on it anymore.

so how are things one year after?

There are jobs but usually the bottom of the list. The ones that do get something "decent" kind of have to buck dance for that position... stay strong bro, been in that same pot.. keep pushing and find something that your heart is in. Also try not to get caught up in any thing illegal, even though it can be frustrating at times.

You got to get up every morning and reinvent yourself everyday. Purpose and drive is all mental and spiritual, be it you keep painting, or for a minute have to do some manual labor, or even get it by wearing a tie…everything is temporary young brother, so don’t trip too hard over anything.

The struggle is a natural part of life, you are not the first Black artist who has struggled and you won’t be the last. Everything you are experiencing will translate into the power of your message and your artistic expressions; no experience will be wasted. There are brothers in the arts, who have been experiencing what you are going through for decades, and haven’t given up. They are your living inspirations. If you can street hustle with YOUR ART than do it, but that will be your call. For if you think you’re stressin’ now, just mess with that BS game and get caught up, and you’ll wish you were just flippin’ burgers for $5.15 an hour.

I've been there and I have debts and a child to raise as well as school hang in there brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll say this other than working for yourself.............NO there isn't butif you want to be in the business of reaching the people try the Library.........I mean apply at the local library the one I work at has many programs for young people and I am start a few focus groups even though they are being to look at me with some strange looks because I'm focusing in on the people this nation disregrades........YOU AND ME but before they bann and fire me for pushing the messages of free thought and Afrikan Pride and empowerment I will reach quiet a few people and put them on the road of liberation.

Also most libraries believe it or not are the most wide ranging places to be and meet new people because everyone with something to learn comes here.....And this has become my favorite month of the year because many of our brothers and sister are much more open to the truth than any other time and reach shut and brainwashed Afrikan minds is ripe this time of the year.
